I have three horses, all had 1-4 deer ticks I found this Fall. None are symptomatic, but I know of three people that just had horses test positive for Lyme Disease. It's about $250 per horse to test through the vet. Does anyone know if the human or dog over the counter tests would be effective? I know it only indicates exposure, not level. However, I would then have the vet out if positive. Hate to be a worry wort, but my one friends horse is really messed up from Lymes. Thanks!

I'm in Wisconsin. Lyme levels are high here. I'm not sure if Lyme is worsening or if vets are testing for it more.

Whoa! That's expensive for the test.  I know my daughter just had her new mare tested for lymes and anaplasmosis because this poor mare had over 100 ticks on her when we got her. She tested negative for lymes and had antibodies for the anaplasmosis. She didn't have any obvious signs or symptoms of either but we figured to just get it done because of her condition.  It was under $200 for both tests.

Yes I've never seen so many on a horse.  She was picking them off for 4 days. Treated her with Frontline and ivermectin and they began falling off dead. This is just a small amount she picked off the 2nd day.
