Happy Monday ya'll! Checking in on the midwestern folks who are on here. Winter storm went through last week. I have a few friends on facebook that show it was terrible. How did everyone fair up there? Was it as bad as ya'll expected?

The weather has really sucked lately.  First rain, then freezing rain and finally snow on top of the ice.  Wind always seems to be blowing.  My horse pens are all ice rinks.  Supposed to get down to -45 wind chill a couple of nights.  They all have buildings they can get into but with it being that cold it makes me want to blanket.  Have never done so in the past but I'm real tempted.

-45? As in 45 degrees below 0? How is that possible? What can live in that?

Yes, bad. It's been a long year. Terrible 4 day blizzard back in April. Two day blizzard a month ago in November. Now this one last week that ended up lasting about 4 days. We lost power for about 24 hours Thursday/Friday. I got stuck getting home from work in my F350 on Thursday. Brand new generator wouldn't work so my heated water fountain froze up. We have so much snow, we're running out of places to push it. It's makes the roads drift over easily because the ditches are full.

Now we're preparing for more snow tomorrow, with 40 mph winds, with wind chills of -60*F. Probably will be ground blizzard conditions for a couple days. Again.

Ho Ho Ho.

It's going to be a long winter.

I am fortunate my 3 horses are healthy and have good winter coats. I don't blanket. They have a run-in shelter for the first time this winter (got that put up this summer). So they have been managing just fine.

Northern Iowa.

Never have blanketed a horse.

Mine live outside.

We are supposed to get up to 8 inches with 45 mph sustained winds and  minus 15°
