I'm team Lisa and Levee for sure!!!!

I always cheer for Lisa, but this year I don't really have a favorite. I do feel sorry for Hailey. She's having a rough go.

I love all the Barrel Racers and their mounts, they all get a thumps up from me, But Lisa I just want to see her finished at the top and go home with a Gold Buckle as in the World Champion!!!

Lisa is always amazing, I love that she's been able to win on multiple horses, that lady deserves a world title. I really hope her and Levee can pull it off one year. 

I am loving all the hat throws this year. It's fun to see everyone celebrating their great runs/rides. 

I'm glad to see others getting their share of the pot too to spread the wealth and a chance at a gold buckle. What an awesome experience 

 After doing a little research, some of those top 15 horses are owned by Teton Ridge. I wonder what the motivation is to not own your own horse. ANybody know the specifics?

Teton Ridge owns Levee, and one of Brittany Pozzi's right? Are there any other ones?
I know a few others don't own the horses they are running, I've always wondered how that works. Do the owners pay the rider monthly, pay travel expenses etc.?

I knew about Brittany horse/horses, I thought that Teton Ridge bought a few from Brittany but she stills rides them and that Levee was owned by Lisa, I thought she breed and raised her. 

Nope I went back and read a little about Levee, Teton Ridge does own her.. Wow I was thinking the mare was out of Rosa for some reason, My bad!!!

Kind of disappointing to hear all that.  I admire the barrel racers who buy and train their own.  This throws a "big business" monkey into the wrench kind of like horse racing or car racing.  Lot of money there. Lisa is indeed a wonderful rider.

I don't think Jessica owns Missy either. It's pretty much the norm for the top pro ladies to ride horses for someone else. Busby Quarter Horses has two there this year, right? And Teton Ridge has two? You have to have very deep pockets to own horses of that caliber. The days of finding a Scamper or Bozo and hitting the road are long gone. 

I think you are correct, Missy isn't owned by Jessica, but I believe she trained her? 

Wenda doesn't own her horses either, does she? High Point owns Mo, don't they? 

Brittany dont own any of the horses that she riding at the NFR, but she was the breeder of Birdie but Teton Ridge owns now.

Emily does own Liza, Pipewrench,Beau and Chongo.

Taycie does not own the horses shes riding.

What was up with Sister this year? She just didn't look like she was firing at all!  Hope she's okay!  However, I do love seeing new or different people win some rounds as well!  

Age and miles I would suspect . They don't stay at the top forever .

It is interesting to see who owns their own. It is the norm in most other disciplines that those at the top don't own the horses they ride so not really surprising.

Busby Quarter Horses owns Benny.  SR Industry Titan was just purchased by Britanny and her husband, I think. Babe On The Chase is owned by Teton Ridge.  Levee is owned by Teton Ridge but Rosa is owned by Alan Woodbury.   Rollo is owned byAlan Woodbury.   Jordan Briggs.  Actually, most of Wenda Johnson's horses are owned by Highpoint Performance Horses.  Jessica Routier's horse is owned by Gary Westergren.  Summer Kosel owns hers.  Ilyssa Riley's horses are owned by Slash Z Quarter Horses.  Sissy Winn does own her horses.  Stevi Hillman's horse Truck is owned by Stevi and her husband.  Sandi is owned by Isabella Quarter horses. Brijett is owned by Sawmill rSawmill Ranch.  Hailey owns  her horse.  Sue Smith owns her horse along with Kyle Edwards.  Paige Jones Owns Bazinga but Cotton is owned by Bob Burt.  I think a lot of these ladies who do own their own horses lease some of these others.  I do Know one person who leased a horse from a friend of mine and now her granddaughter is cleaning house on that horse.  All this information came from BARREL HORSE NEWS  DEC 2023.  The thing about these ranches having these girls ride their horses is that it helps them make expenses and those that run their own may not have the financial backing.  

Just my opinion (which bascially means worth nothing), but Sister had a limited hauling schedule this year and I don't believe a lot of runs prior to the NFR. Charmanye used to say that if Scamper had exteded time off from competition it took several runs to get the fire back. Sister got better each run back. Not that age and miles doesn't have something to do with it, but then you would have to point to Missy who is about the same age (or maybe older?). She just needed more runs to get her to fire.

When did Stevi buy Truck? His breeder/owner was a BHW regular back in the day. I thought she still owned him. 

I believe she bought him after she won the American.

I dont know where I got the ideal that Levee was a mare, lol..

I guess I just look at horses like Louie who never really lost their fire until they were much much older!  Was just wondering if there was something wrong or off with Sister, she's not that old is she?  

Shes a 2011 mare. So not that old at all, just was not her Rodeo this year.. 

Haliey talked about Sister in an episode of The Money Barrel. She was coming off a hock injury which is why she wasn't hauled much before the NFR.

I don't think in all this confusion that it was mentioned that Jana Beam Brown trained and futuritied two of the horses in the top 5. Ahe trained Bennie and Taycie Matthew's mare that was injured.  One other horse that Jana trained was the back up horse that Hailey Kinsel used a couple of years ago. Three different people broke arena records in Ft Worth on that mare.  Shows that anyone can ride behind Jana. She is such a good patient trainer and just won the OKC Futurity Slot race with one of her own horses. 

is that what it shows? 

A kid owns and runs the "back-up" horse mentioned above.  Around here, we are proud of Jana and don't think she gets the recognition due her for the many horses she's trained performing at top level events with professional and amateur riders. 

I will always be a Lisa fan, Levee was so solid all week, I was excited to see another average title for them. 

I was reading about all the different horses/ownerships and I always wonder how it works. To some degree, it seems like the riders benefit and would pay but at the same time, the owners benefit from their horses running/hauling at that caliber. I wonder how those business arrangements work. 

As far as Sister, I was so disappointed for Hailey, it was nice to see the money spread out this year but hard year for her. I did read somewhere on her instagram or something that Sister just didnt make a lot of rounds, it sounded like due to an injury which is always hard. 

I also worried about Chongo, Emily's social media eluded to him not being himself (although he seemed to almost be over working and obv clocking).

Its sure an interesting concept. I couldnt get over those JL Dash Ta Heaven's and how they run so much like him. Those genetics run deep. 

She actually had a minor injury prior to that Cinch Playoffs, which is why she didn't run her there, she mentioned in one of her interviews while there. So she had a huge break before the NFR and wasn't quite at the top of her game. It was really nice to see others at the top, not discrediting the team whatsoever.

I am proud to call Jana my friend. She is so talented. She works well with any style of horse and puts in so much time getting them where they need to be to win. Best of all is that other riders can do just as well on the horses as Jana does.
