I have a TB mare that I purchased from the racetrack earlier this spring that was diagnosed with Kissing Spine last week and has been scheduled for surgery next month. I am just wondering what things helped to prep them before surgery and what recovery exercises/stretches worked well in ensuring they make a full recovery? This is my first horse I have had that has dealt with this and she's only 6 years old so I want to do all I can to decrease her pain and improve her quality of life.

I think before I did surgery, I would do injections I has one that I put down last spring at 25 years old.  I rode him with injections for probably 7 years.  I finally had to retire him from the chips in his knees at about 16.  My vet sais he just wasn' a candidate for surgery so never did it.  I would not have anyone do kissing spine surgery but Dr, Honnas in Bryqan TX.  Have a friend who has a local vet do surgery on her horse and she lost him.
