I have never had a horse get kicked and I don't know what's a reasonable amount of time for recovery. She was kicked on 12/27 in the gaskin. She had a good size warm swollen area but that has decreased and heat is gone. However she is still a little lame. I have seen her lope in the pasture. Thank God he didn't have shoes on. I assume like people it could take a while. I had a quad roll on me and my leg got a huge bruise/hematoma and it took a few months to feel semi normal. I do have my vet involved but I haven't had an exam yet because we are so remote but I'm planning on a ranch call soon. I'm just wondering what everyone else's experiences have been.

Deep bruising can take quite awhile to heal. If it had a hematoma it can be causing pressure on nerves. If it hasn't healed vet you may want to have your vet look at it. It may needed drained. Also if she hasn't been usning it much, it may just be stiff and some light exersize could really help it.

Thanks for the feedback. I have a ranch call finally pinned down to the 28th. The way she acts it could be affecting her stifle patella. I'm not sure what to think but my vet said go ahead and put her back on bute for a few days. Praying that will help her pain levels

Turns out the kick to the gaskin affected the stifle (nothing is broken, so seems to be soft tissue injury).... going to a performance vet to exam... anyone have experience with this type of injury? Any info is welcomed. tia

Found out last month w/ultrasound she has a torn meniscus in the stifle ?? I chose to have them Inject ProStride. The other ligaments are not torn and appear stable.
What supps does anyone recommend if any??
I am 2 hours from any kind of rehab or therapy. I live in the boondocks ?? and no insurance of course. Ugh. She's on stall rest in a makeshift pen and on trazodone. No other horses are on the premesis. Hoping that will keep her quieter.
Vet was surprised she was getting around so good with such a bad tear. And surprised and how my mare tolerated the lameness exam. I sure hope she heals! She's a good one.
