I just re-did my bedroom with this theme and I love it!!  It sounds a little drastic but it looks cool-  I painted 3 walls a deep cream color and one wall RED.  Around the border of the red wall I used calk/nails to attach a rope(as in a calf rope), it looks really neat. To tie the rope in with the rest of the room I took some ropes that my friend didnt like the feel of so they were not dirty and used hot glue to make them into baskets, picture frames, and accent on a mirror.  I really love my room now.

I have an old time Bordello room named Lori Darling from Lonesome Dove.  I have papered one wall in really expensive small floral print, have a huge old time bed, Put old barn looking wood on the wall behind the bed and ran kick board up about 1 1/2 ft. to resemble where the cowboys would pull their boots off to jump in the sack with the Lady of the room.  I have an old time rocker with old style lingerie thrown over for effect.  The lamps have beaded dangly trim and the curtains are lace.  It is a fun room.  My entire house is done in old west.  Really cheap to do.

Hi, we have re-done our whole house with a western theme.  I think that red's and sage greens are very romatic in a classy floral for the bed.  The walls could look very nice in a tan, toffee, maybe with a faux- color wash.  The rope idea is GREAT.  You could accent it with small silk red rose buds.  The bedding could be a mix of very feminine with a touch of the west.  Such as a floral or soft fabric for the duvet, and a stripe, or plaid for the bed skirt, then add a lot of pillows in the bedding fabrics and throw in some accent pillows.  Like a nice velvet pillow, with silver accents or leather pillows.  I also thought another neat idea would be a room in red, black and yellowish-gold.  You could use sheer fabric for the windows, Red and White.  Gold colored walls, same ideas for the bed, but the whole room could be accented with vintage cowgirl pinup art.

I painted my bedroom red and bought black iron rodeo hangings like a barrel racer, bull rider, etc.  Everyone who sees the room loves it.  White woodwork, black furniture (I painted it) and black comforter and curtains.

Hi

We just remodeled our entire home over the winter..it has always been western themed but needed updating.

I painted several rooms, including the master bedroom with  that super cool suede paint in a buckskin color, it honestly looks just like suede. I also used peices of chamois skin for doillies on dresses etc. plus a pretty cattle drive wall paper border in earth tones. The furniture in that bedroom is all log.

My favorite wall is in our living room is one big wall of blood-orange suede paint with the rest of the walls a pale apricot, the suede wall works really great to show off part of our western art collection and the fire place.

There are so many neat western things for your home now!

Have fun and good luck.

I have a huge wagon wheel suspended from my ceiling in the bedroom. The electric light is in the center of it, and all around it are real candles. Just depends on what I'm doing in there as to how might light I need. Everyone loves the wheel. Then I have smaller wagon wheels on the walls that are picture frames.

I love the red Idea, a dark burnt orangish red. And defanatly the cowgirl pinup part, I also like the non tradiotional abstract rodeo art. Also I don't know if you've heard of Henri Peter he's a south American artist who does some really cool stuff. Click on http://www.henripeter.com/ to view some of his art.

OOOHHHH  the wagon wheel with the candles sounds so beautiful, and very romantic.  For other light fixture ideas the HOME DEPOT  has a line of western type light fixtures.  Also e-bay usually has vintage cowboy-western themed light fixtures.  They are usually from the 50's some have small chips and a little paint missing.

love is in the air.......

We just redid our house too...we used the Ralph Loren suede paint as well...in our bedroom we used the "doeskin gray" color which is a dark tan and along the bottom of the walls we put tin (like you'd put on the side of your barn) with a cedar border.  It looks really good!  My bed is a 4 poster cedar log bed.  My husband also framed out all the door ways in cedar planks.  I have a couple of western paintings hanging up and some old barnwood stuff.  I also have a lamp made out of a cedar post with a leather shade.  It looks good!  I hope this give you a few ideas!

What I'm planning to do in our living room on one wall is log it. At Home Depot they have log cabin siding to do outside of homes, well I think it would look so awesome inside. Plus it insulates as well. Now if I could just get hubby to do it!!

I just finished my husbands bathroom in 2 shades of denim blue and then a terra cotta red on one wall. Hung up some pictures of horses he's roped on over the years and it looks like a 'guys room.'  I have a big bag of brown leather pieces left over from some re-upholsty project that I was going to pad and then cover the window cornice with.  I was thinking of overlapping, fringing some pieces and sticking some conchos on.  Found a indoor-outdoor rug with boots on it and boot curtain shower holders and it turned out pretty cute.  Our house is 'farm/cowboy' and really needs to be taken room by room and redone.

Wanted to ask you about doing one wall one color and another a different color.

My house will have one BIG room with the LR and DR and Kitchen.  The left side wall will be the shortest and the right side will be the longest.......it will go into the DR.  Do you paint the long wall the darker color or the lighter color?

I just thought about something.. What about taking that wagon wheel hanging it over your bed. Then take some sort of beautiful fabric, drape it over the wagon wheel then the fabric will drape over your bed. I have seen these round circle things that people hang over their beds and put some sort of beautiful fabric over it and just drapes over the bed and makes a covering for the bed. I always thought that was so elegant, romantic and very simple.

Something that I do in my house is.. I have found these horse throw blankets, they are made of like a threaded material. The ones I have are from Cracker Barrel. Anyway I hang these on my wall and I think they are really neat looking. Well, these are just a couple of ideas.. Good luck. let us know how it turns out!0

Win4him, Ok the brown paper bag, actually I used brown postal paper in a roll, a lot easier. Tear into pieces, shape doesn't matter, wad up in a ball to make crinkly (sp), then unfold, put on with regular wall paper paste, over lap (just a little), smooth out with trowel, if you tear any part of the paper you can just smooch it together, it's really wall papering for dummies, you can't mess up!! When it dries go over it with polyutrene(sp) the wrinkles makes it look like veins in the leather.

It's really easy and cheap!!! If you want a little color you can do it with white butcher paper, then dry brush the paint on. Or you can use the poly with a stain, also I use the satin, that doesn't have much of a shine.

Oh wow, this is right up my alley.  My whole house is western too, or getting there.  I also try to "decorate on a dime."  My guest bathroom has grey fixtures.  Grey is my least favorite color.  But I knew I had to work with it.  I painted grey patches on the walls like a Paint horse.  I took a grey, white and black saddle blanket and hung it on the window as a valance.  I laid a dark grey bandana on the toilet tank, and put white with black trim enamelware that I had on top.  Rolled black and grey bandanas and stuck them in the enamelware pot.  Rustled up a black and white horse picture, a black cowboy hat, a kid's black and white pony print vest, a black bridle and hung them on the walls.  I bought a black towel for a dollar and a white towel with a black horse on it for four dollars and draped it over the black one.  I dug up an old mirror I had that was framed with some kind of black draft horse harness thing.  I found a small black and grey boot and a black and white photo that I had in the house and placed those on the sink.  I love it now and it only cost me $5.00!  My other bathroom also has grey fixtures and navy counters which I also don't like.  I made it red, white and blue.  I even hung a red, white and blue saddle blanket over the tub.  I found lot's of stuff around the house that was those colors and spent about $25. buying some things.  Navy towels, fifty cent flags that I stuck in a cup, a little red shelf with a sheriff's badge on it, etc.  My window treatments in my kitchen are red bandanas hanging in a triangle on six windows.  The walls are green.  That 1930's sage green.  Does anyone have any ideas for my bedroom?  The counters in the vanity area and bathroom are maroon--I hate that color too.  I'm more of an earth tone, Mexican color person.  I have no furniture except two mis-matched antique dressers and a mattress on the floor.  And I can't afford to buy anything now.  Maybe something used.  Sorry, this was so long, but decorating is my second favorite hobby after horses!  I've enjoyed everyone's ideas! Wow!  I'd love to see pictures!

well the wall that is done in the dark blood-orange suede paint in our living room is the biggest wall in the room...room is 20X22 feet..an opposite wall is all native rock fireplace, with allot of earth tones in the rocks...has a big cedar mantle. The living room has a high cathedral ceiling that are cedar planks. The rest of the walls in the living room are painted in the light apricot/peach satin sheen are smaller areas because of windows and the fireplace. You can paint either smaller or larger walls, it is a personal preference and depends upon how much natural light you have in the room...we have allot of light in that room... I just love the look of the suede paint and have allot of natural light so went with the biggest wall..

We wanted to put in cedar plank flooring in as well but were advised against it because our dog's nails would scratch the wood...(isn't that something when you have to re-model around the pooch) so we went with a retro 50 style rust/cinnamon colored shag carpet..very cool...our pupper has been trained she cannot come onto the carpet but every now and then she does "sneak" in to say howdy.

have fun!

Thanks everyone!!!!!!

So many awesome ideas......so hard to choose.

I think I am going to do the suede paint and tin with cedar trim in my quest bathroom.  Now that will be a true cowboys bathroom.  :)

Our Living room/Dining room/Kitchen is all one big room and open.......so what I decide on will be throughout the LR and DR.

Our cabinets are real western and will have tile floor........so anymore ideas I can do for that big room........center piece of the house???????

Also......any ideas for my lil girls room.   She is a barrel racer all the way.......18mos old......but full of life.  I love RED and want to do her room in red/horses/anything animals and bright colors.  I was thinking about bandana wallpaper with border......looks cute BUT was hoping of some awesome ideas throughout the house and never to have to use wallpaper.

Here is an awesome site everyone.

www.decoratetoday.com

Keep sending me ideas!!!!

Also need some for the office.

I run barrels and my husband is a firefighter........any ideas???????

We just finished remodeling our kitchen.  I painted the walls a dark red/brown (the color of clay) with that suede look, all new kitchen cabinets I have burned designs into the doors. (all of the rodeo classes and then our farm brand) The large cabinet doors on each side of the sink I burned in my photo from Gifford last year.

After I get the cabinets all stained I'll post some pictures of my woodburning.  I am super happy with it all it looks awesome!!

Hubby did the wall behind our fireplace with the brown paper, then stained it - it really looks like leather - AND it was CHEAP and he did it in one afternoon while I was at work! We put up pine "planking" on one wall in our dining room and started to replace the trim with pine. We have a ways to go, but it's starting to look cool. I have thought of using the tin on the ceiling - still thinking about that. That is what we put up in the living quarters of our trailer on the ceiling and it looks cool!!

I am just finishing a house....My son's room is Antique Bone (ralph lauren paint) and Maleya Red (also RL paint) on the bottom..seperated with a cowboy boarder. Looks great.

Bathroom, look on ebay...search for toilet seats...great leather and cowhide toilet seats.....use horse shoes to make towel holders...also look on ebay for Texas star drawer pulls for cabinet...

Also paint color....Harvest Brown...By Behr (home depot)  great for western themed houses (and classy)

If you are unsure of color....keep some of the scrap drywall that is left when the dry wall people leave. buy just a quart of paint to try on the scrap, and take into your house to see in your light.

Oh, I am so in the mood to decorate.  Am waiting for a new bedroom set.  It's like a mexican pine.  Am thinking of doing the walls turquoise or orange-red.  I'd really like orange-red but the last time I tried that color, I painted the whole dining room and it looked fluorescent!  Had to repaint the whole thing.  Couldn't find the right color anywhere.  Everything was either too brown or too red or too orange. Anyone have an idea what I can do about the burgundy-colored counter tops in my vanity area?

I just looked at my previous post where I told you we were sleeping on a mattress on the floor and couldn't afford a new bedroom set.  Guess I couldn't help myself after reading this thread and got myself one.  lol

My friends remodeled a barn that was on their place and moved in. I've told them they should have it put in a magazine. It is just likeso many of you have described.

He took cabinets from an old house and put tin in the door inserts. His wife hand punched rodeo designs in the tin. they put black granite counter tops in the kitchen. The bathroom has a sink set inside an  old oak dresser. The mirror is set in an old harness. Barn wood halfway up the walls with horse print wall paper on top.

The handrail going upstairs has a skinned cedar top and bottom rails and horse shoes welded together and painted black for uprights. The coffee table is a wagon wheel  topped with glass that holds all of their buckles inside the spokes. The whole house is awesome. I need to get some pictures.
