Location: Washington State | Okay, this is probably a stupid question. But, as I was flying through the air, I wondered, is there a way to decensitize your horse with bees? Short of going out there and repeatedly poking him with a stick pin until he stands there quietly and enjoys it, what can be done? |

i have no solution for you, just wondered if you had a soft landing...we've had so much mud lately, i don't think i could find a dry spot to land. |

Location: Washington State | Okay, now I thought one of you would have a great solution for me. It truly saddens me that I may be doomed to repeat my acrobatics for yet another group of 200 people. The worst part is, some little girl, about 10 years old came up and told me I didn't even make an 8 second ride. |

My neighbor went out on a horse, ponying another. Pretty soon, two horses were galloping home, and there she was....walking back, and signaling that she was OK. Maybe if you put a bee box in his pen, he'd get used to it. |

Location: WA | No solutions. But what a bratty little girl! Hehe. Solution, solution, solution... nothing coming to me. Is he sacked out real well, like can you take a plastic sack and hit him all over with it everywhere and he is ok with it? That is all that I can think of. We were on a trail ride down south of Elbe and we had come to a wide spot in the trail so we stopped for a rest (there was 4 people, 5 horses). My husbands horse starts kicking at his belly and dancing just a hair. The guy in the back noticed that the poor guy was getting eating alive because he had kicked a nest bout one step back. Poor boy, was so good to just stand there. We sure ran when the guy behind him said "BEES!!!!". Bingo, the horse, was fine later on, but is one good horse and one tough horse! Point is, maybe a little spook is ok?! Good luck! We don't have much of a bee problem out here yet, but I know if I got bucked off the landing would be HARD! I know I am going to get yelled at for this, but we need some rain! Our bigger field is just sitting with fertilizer on it, we really need it! |

But, I think the older I get the more I understand it. I still don't want to go to Arizona, but sure wish we had some more nice riding days. It's not raining here anymore today, it just sprinkled a little this morning. I have always loved the smell of things after a good rain. I forgive you for wanting more of it. |

Location: WA | I hate the hot weather. Actually, it makes me sick, like nasuaous (sp), throwing up sick. Grew up in Eastern Washington and thought it would be great to move over here. Then we moved here last summer and there were 90 degree days! I was bummed. And then snow this winter. And then Easter was sooo hot. Have I brought the Eastern weather with me?!!?!? If so, I wish it would go back home! |

And, enough rain just to keep my fields green! I could ride when ever I wanted, it would be cool enough not to sweat and I wouldn't have to wear a coat. Anybody know where that place is at? Hey, Lisa are you going to Stewarts on the 24th? |

Location: At The End of The Red Dirt Road | The bees are trying to eat up the horses in Oklahoma this week too! One has been standing in the same spot in the pasture all day kicking at them. These are the little sweat bee looking things (you can tell I paid attention in science classes, can't you?) I tried feeding my horses the apple cider vinegar in their feed, but most of them thought I was trying to kill them, plus it does no good to start horses on something, then when anyone else is doing the feeding, they neglect to add the stuff!!!! I am just trying to douse everything with my homemade fly spray regularly! |

Location: WA | It's really my husbands cousin, her name is Megan. Her family has had horses for about 3 years, all her dad does is trail ride, but she wants to rodeo! So, I told her I could teach her what I know. It is long and slow as she is just learning how to ride (these last few years) and she has a 12 y.o. TB with a VERy short attention span. In Graham it is just a 4-H schooling show, all events, performance and gaming, but they have an adult section as well. So I can still run and be there to support/help her and her family. It will be her first outing. Have fun at Stewart's! We went to the last playday she had there and had just a blast! Ellen is great! I really wanted to go to this one but figured that would be a little selfish when I could still run AND help someone just learning in the process. |

Location: At The End of The Red Dirt Road | In say a gallon size jug (old milk jug or such) fill about 1/2 full of vinegar (plain or cider), a cup or two of Pinesol, squirt of dish soap and a little diesel - say 1 cup. Then fill the rest of the jug with water. I kind of adjust the amounts thru the summer - and it keeps pretty well as I am still using some I made last year. If it is not working, use more vinegar and more diesel. And no, the diesel does not seem to do anything to the hair coat, except shine it up a bit. |

Location: At The End of The Red Dirt Road | I got the basic vinegar, soap, water idea from an old cowboy who was too cheap to bother to buy fly spray. Then one time a commercial spray I was using had a really familiar smell - finally decided it smelled like pinesol, so started adding that, then a horseshoer we used always just used straight diesel so started adding some of that too!! |

Location: Washington State | Meridian Riding Club, it's on South Hill in Puyallup. Club has been in existence since 1947 (I think). Anyway, there is an arena tucked way back amonst a bunch of nice houses and condos. You only run for ribbons. But, it is just a relaxed fun day. Good, exercise for the horses and keeps the kids in practice in between the real shows. |

Evidently, to show there you have be a part of the elite - be a leader, volunteer, etc. So after I run I am going to go over and help her, let's hope their show runs slow! So maybe we can meet on the 24th! |

Well, if I can run at this fundraiser show then I will probably stick there as it will be less stress and driving. And I really want to run her out in a HUGE pen, even if it is just a 4-H sized pattern. Then I could really brag about a 15, huh?! Fun, a birthday run!!! I made Steve go to Stewart's on Valentines Day! :) I almost stopped by your place yesterday, but I didn't. I always feel bad just stopping in unannounced. I am having a saddle pad difficulty, rather I am on a saddle pad search! |

Location: WA | No way! Has that changed since I left 4-H?? It used to be a smaller sized pattern where I ran it. The arena could accomodate a larger pattern (as we ran for other rodeos) but for 4-H it was always shrunk down and my big boy had horrible times on it because by the time he got stretched out, he was rating again. Things change quick I guess!!!! |

In fact, the horse (hubby's good rope horse, of course) that was standing out there po'd all afternoon fighting them ended up cutting his hind leg kicking at them. Sliced about a 3 inch place right above the hoof. I went out to get him because I had a guy coming to work on their teeth and he had blood all over himself! |

Location: WA | You know, I can't stop thinking about this! If it is a show TO RAISE MONEY why is it closed to the public?!?!? I know there wouldn't be a load of outsiders there, but a few extra runs or classes here or there wouldn't hurt anyone!!!! And then the youngsters could watch the adults who hopefully ride better because of more experience and learn? Why why why?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! |

Location: Washington State | Here's why. First of all, I knew they were having trouble with the insurance provider.
I think they come out ahead by not paying the extra insurance that it costs to cover the public.
And, last year they had a woman fall off and taken away in the ambulance. She was not registered for any events. At the end of the show a couple parents had hopped on to run the barrels, just for fun and she got hurt.
I didn't know, until you posted it that they had actually closed it to the general public. Glad I'm not going. |

Location: WA | The insurance part makes sense. But do they actually make much money on it? I know I am being a pest, but trying to understand. Growing up our club had a summer horse show, 4-H and Open, with no problems. And we made good money off of it. But I know that the open classes had just as many or more people in them, in some cases. Did this person know how to ride? Too bad the waivers you sign don't do much, but then I guess that means you have to sign it to begin with. I am going to help out my cousin still. Like I said it is her first competition and she was nervous last weekend just trying to pick out classes! And there is plenty of other opportunities for me to run. I just know the time and effort that goes into things and like the payoffs to exceed the costs.

I bet you never heard the story of the rope horse we bought in May the first year we were out there, a month later it is sprinkling and I had my new portable barns there, but JC had not gotten them tied down yet... anyway so the horse doesn't get wet, I put him in the pen with the barns and one of those microbursts comes along and the barn ended up on the horse - deader than a hammer of course!!!! We were just SSSSOOOO lucky he was the only one killed. |

Even in all the events in the past, where the public was allowed to ride, there wasn't very many people (outside of 4H) that participated. The thing I have found really and truly amazing about it is that there are very, very few parents that ride horses in 4H. |
