          Location: You never know where I will show up...... | In my experience, checking a mare for pregnancy with a stallion is not very reliable. Mares can build follicles on their ovaries for quite some time even after they are pregnant, thus they will show signs of heat then too. The only way to find out for sure is to get a good vet to either palpate or ultrasound the mare for pregnancy. Preferably the ultrasound, but a mare's pregnant uterus will have a totally different feel to it even only at 18-20 days of pregnancy and a good palpator will feel the difference if she is bred.
