Please pray for Yeehaw's oldest son. He was in a car accident this morning and very seriously injured. Right now they are just waiting for him to be taken into surgery. His neck is broken and he has spine displacement which is putting pressure on his spinal cord.
Also, please pray for strength for the family.
Thank you! |

If Ryan didn't show any signs of neurologic impairment, then I think there is a pretty good chance that he will come out of surgery neurologically intact. We have to keep the faith and keep the prayers coming! |

O Lord Jesus, our Savior, the Physician of souls and bodies, who became man and suffered death on the cross for our salvation, and through thy tender love and compassion did deal all manner of sickness and affliction: do thou O Lord, visit Ryon in his suffering and grant him grace and strength to bear this sickness with which he is afflicted, with Christian patience and submission to thy will, trusting in they loving kindness and tender mercy. Bless, we pray thee, the means used for his recovery, and those who administer to them. We know O lord, that we justly deserve any punishment thou may inflict upon us, for we have so often offended thee, in thought, word and deed. Therefore, we humbly pray of thee, look upon our weakness, and deal not with us after our sins, but according to the multitude of thy mercies. Have compassion on Ryon, and let mercy and justice meet and deliver him from this sickness and suffering he is undergoing. Grant that his sickness may be the means of our true repentance and amendment of our lives according to thy will, that he may spend the rest of his days in thy love and fear, praising and glorifying thee with thy Eternal Father and Life-giving Spirit. Amen.

Let's keep those prayers going!!!!!! Prayer is an all powerful thing and we all know that many outcomes have been changed by this one simple act. There is no more faithful or wonderful servant of God than Deanna, she has taught me soooooooo much about my own faith and you will never hear her say a negative word to anyone or about anyone. |

Location: Bastrop, Texas | The next 48 hours or so will be real crucial. I just hope this kid bounces back. I just arrived at work, and all the way here I was trying to imagine the anguish the family must be going through, as well as what Ryan is experiencing. It's easy to forget how drastically our lives can change in the blink of an eye. One minute you are driving along, happy-go-lucky, and the next minute you are in an ICU, struggling to breathe, unable to move, and unable to communicate. I've seen this so many times, and yet I really still can't imagine what that young man must be going through. YeeHaw's presence is so important right now. |

Location: I'll worry about that tomorrow | Just talked to YH.... Ryon is trying to wake up...he doesn't like the ventilator, but they won't remove it until they know he can stay awake. Testing all that right now. There is some fluid build-up that they're dealing with, but the medical team is on top of it.
She said to THANK ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS. She's asked that you continue to pray for Ryon, pray that this spinal cord swelling goes down and that feeling returns.
I ask that you please pray for YH & her family also. Pray for their strength and for patience. This waiting game is the worst.
Thank you all so much.

| Thankyou Lord for holding Ryan in your arms last night and letting him rest in peace. I told De to get out and stay out as much as she can. They have her phone #.....she needs to rest & relax a little this day that our Lord hath made.
Again, she thanks you over and over for all of your prayers and concern.

They finally got Ryon settled back down yesterday evening & back to sleep. He hates the vent, but they kept telling him that it had to stay for right now.
Ryon's girlfriend was staying in the room with him last night, and De had plans to sleep in the waiting area.
This waiting is terrible, isn't it?
Thank you so much for your continued prayers for Ryon and his family. |

The doctor was not able to pull much fluid off the lungs. However, they did get a culture. Got to have patience that the result of that will be back soon.
Ryon had fever earlier, but he is cold now. Nurse told De that was a result of spinal shock. He is heavily sedated (asleep again) and the vent is still in.
Thank you all, again, for your prayers. |

Location: I'll worry about that tomorrow | Saturday morning update....... : )
Ryon's upper right lobe of his lung is still collapsed. They have used cpap to help on breathing....and vent is still in. His breathing is much better. They're just trying to get that lobe to inflate.
Next, they're getting him ready to put an umbrella in the groin area to catch any blood clots that might come up from his legs. Ryon was nodding "yes" that he wanted this. (I forget what I've told you all, but Ryon is an RN himself, an ICU Nurse. So, he is really aware of what's going on even though he is heavily sedated.)
He has shoulder movement; arms are weak, but can bend his elbows (yea!), and he can loosely hold a pen (yea!); and was able to point to different letters of alphabet (yea!). Just a wonderful report this morning.
It's the breathing thing. Just continue to pray that they can get him off that vent.
Again, over and over and over, I can't thank all of you enough for all the prayers and support. It is absolutely amazing! |

Location: I'll worry about that tomorrow | They are keeping him heavily sedated. We're hoping and praying this vent comes out soon. Ryon has some paralysis to his diaphragm.....this is what's causing some of the breathing problems. That diaphragm needs to strengthen or maybe other muscles strengthened to handle the breathing that comes so involuntary to the rest of us. I hope I'm saying all of that right.

I just sent a package this morning. Here's hoping that she gets it!! : )
This is the address I used. I think it will be good for now....don't see why it wouldn't. Deanna or Ryon Harrison HICU - Rm. 424 UAMS Medical Center 4301 W. Markham St. Little Rock, AR 72205
De is staying at the hospital right now. She's either in the room with Ryon or in the ICU Waiting Area. My guess is they will know who she is and where to find her! [FYI....when I talked to the hospital this morning about sending the package, they were going to transfer me to someone else if money was going to be inside the package. So, best not to do anything like that without contacting the hospital first.]

Things like a sweater, books, snacks, what ever they might need. Wish I'd known sooner. I'm sure they've gone out and bought stuff. But please ask her if she needs anything. |

Ryon is in good spirits this morning. He's on a breathing mission. : )
Please pray for strong, clear lungs and a strong diaphragm!
Ryon needs to get off the vent.....and that guy is working as hard as he can work!
eta: He is breathing on his own, but has to keep all the numbers up so that he can get off the vent!

Her spirits are definitely up! She said to tell all of you that she is sooo thankful for her BHW family. Your prayers are working; she draws strength from them.
And above all she said they receive blessings each and every day. Please continue to pray that Ryon can keep all of the numbers up. They are going to come back in at 1:00 pm this afternoon and do blood gases. If the numbers are ok, they are going to remove the vent. They do not want to take this vent out too early, though. And Ryon is very aware of that.
Please continue to pray.
As De continues to say, "He is in God's Hands." |

Location: Tom, Oklahoma | Good morning to all of my loved ones on BHW! First off, let me just say, I am awed and humbled by all of your prayers and love. We have needed them so badly (and still do), and God is hearing you! :) We have witnessed blessings and miracles!!! Thank you Lord!
#1 Miracle! ........he has movement in his shoulders/arms and some in his hands! Thank YOU Lord!! He has gotten stronger in his arms every day. Because he could not talk, we printed out the alphebet on a peice of paper, and he would point to the letters and spell the words with the questions he had. Trust me, he has to know what he meds he is on, and what rate they have the drips on. lol......he is keeping those ICU nurses hoppin! First day, he was slow pointing to his letters........we would have to put the pointer in his hand........yesterday.........he was wollering that pointer around in to position, and we had to think fast to keep up with his spelling!! LOL
2..........He is off the vent and breathing on his own!! (Ryon was soooooo scared he would not get off the vent because he is completely aware of his situation. He has taken care of people in his condition many times.) His fracture is at C6. So he does have paralasis (I can't even spell that horrible word.) from his nipples down. He is going to have to work really hard learning to strengthen his muscles in his diaphram he can't feel. But he is keep his oxygen levels up, so all is going good, and his nurse last night told me "he is gonna fly", meaning he will breath on his own! Praise God!!! (His respitory Dr. said she had never seen anyone work so hard in her life to get off the vent!;)
In the UAMC ICU unit, there is no room for sympathy..........so I'm asking you all for the same! Empahty will work. We are so blessed. 2 doors down from Ryon, lays a boy paralized from the neck down, on a permanent vent. So our Lord and greatly blessed us. And they just keep coming! I KNOW all the prayers going up has gotten us off of that vent.........and has strengthened those arms and hands...........KEEP PRAYING!
I am home.......have the flu, running 102.4 temp. fell better now that I have some medicine in me. Love you all! Blessings to you all.

| prayers for Ryon and family. do the dr's know if the C6 fracture severed the spinal cord, or hopefully, there is still a lot of pressure from edema causing the paralysis. sometimes miracles happen and the nerves if they aren't severed will recover in time. i do so hope and pray this. will be saying prayers all day. |

The way the dr. expained it to me, it is like a cable that has been laid on the ground and stepped on......still in tact, but some fibers damaged. Yes, we still have alot of swelling...........and they are keeping his blood pressure up for his spinal cord. We are praying for regeneration of nerves.........yes, MIRACLES happen every day!

Here is what comes to me from Scripture: Phillipians 4:12 or 13 I can do all things through Christ which strenghtens me.
Christ strenghtened Ryon in order to remove the vent. Therefore Christ will strenghten You and Your Family to lift Ryon up for Prayers and whatever else God has in store for ya'll. |

Location: Tom, Oklahoma | Thank God I came home! I have been soooo dang sick! I cannot imagine being in that hospital waiting room this sick, they would have made me go sit in the street. lol
I called Ryon's nurse this evening. She said he had a very peaceful day. He is very tired from working on his breathing. He was getting a new bed as she talked to me. It is a "compression" bed. If I understand her right, it will help him cough. It is so hard not being there.
Good scripture FH. Thank you! yaya found what I was looking for, and it is not in the Bible......it is one of the early Church Father's writings.........Irenaeus..............
"Men, indeed, are not able to make something from nothing, but only from existing material. God, however, is greater than men first of all in this: that when nothing existed beforehand, he called into existence the very material for his creation" Against Heresies (c. 180)

De, I was just checking in to see how things are going with Ryon.
Not a day goes by that I don't think of you and your son. It's inspiring to see you keep the faith. I've witnessed miracles in my lifetime. |

A lady from here go hurt bad and spent sometime in the hospital they did a benifit auction on facebook. set up a bank account for the benifit, and then had people donate items, you post a picture of it, and then say what it is. and people bid on it. highest bidder sends money to the fund.
they made $30 000 in 5 days. Maybe someone who is close with YeeHaws family can do this for her.
Its really easy |

You got it! : ) Everything's going good this morning.....the problem with numbers being off yesterday has been taken care of. Yea! When I talked to De, they had come in & had Ryon sit up while they changed his bed. She thought it was a good time to get out and run errands & was out shopping for snacks, etc.
As always, please continue to pray for Ryon, for De, and for the rest of their family.

from me: i am having trouble making the reply things work.
i keep thinking of your family and your son. it sounds great that he has tingles and some things are looking up. i just was looking for an update on his spinal fractures. is he in a body splint to keep things in alignment? they have some really neat splints from the hips to the shoulders that are removable, but can be put on when up out of bed. continued prayers.

Nothing else was mentioned over the weekend about the "four" broken vertebrae that were "inoperable". De is planning on questioning the doctors about this today. And, no, Ryon is not in a splint or cast & they're moving him around and sitting him up in a chair. This has us all baffled, but maybe there will be some clarification today.
As S.G. said to me, "knowledge is power"......so I've been working on the computer trying to figure out exactly what steps need to be taken so Ryon can get assistance to pay for everything. Trying to figure this out is unbelievably hard. Of course, his social worker at the hospital should be on top of this, but De won't know anything until she gets a chance to talk to them.....hopefully today.
Anybody with ideas, please let us know. Since Ryon has a Texas address, that's where they will have to apply for assistance. If he qualifies for medicaid, will it cover the rehabilitation that he needs? What about the Texas Rehabilitation Commission....how long is their waiting list...and will they cover what is needed? On and on....so, again, if you have ideas we would love to hear them.
Funny how you don't know what to do until something like this hits home. Just makes you feel so helpless.
Thank you again and again for your prayers!

If he is expected to be disabled or incapacitated for at least twelve months or more he could file for social security disability. In order to qualify he has to have been disabled for a period of twelve months or expected to be disabled for a period of twelve months or more as far as the medical goes. As far as his eligibility based on his quarters paid in to the system is another factor, but if he's been working for a while he should be fine. Since this is an accident and he has recently had surgery they would probably do a 3 month hold on the application as is the policy anytime after someone has had certain surgeries and then evaluate his case at the end of the 3 months to see what his prognosis would be. I used to process and make the medical decision on disability claims for social security. Social security has very rigid guidelines on disability so it may not work, but anything is worth a shot. He will definitely have to meet that twelve month requirement, but I would think with an injury like that it will take at least twelve months to recover.
Hope this helps. |

I have been thinking about this post all day The DRIVER that hit him he is RESPONSIBLE for these bills!!!!! That is what the medical and liability is for on his insurance and if he doesn't have auto insurance then he needs to go to jail! Then Ryon's auto insurance should be kicking in |

Get a good personal injury lawyer or the other insurance adjustor will give you a hard time. Don't sign or settle on anything. You think you can handle all this, but in this day and age sadly you can't,. the lawyer will get a percentage of what is awarded to Ryon, but to protect his future you have to go slowly, if he is 18? 21? Call a good personal injury lawyer. I cannot tell you how important this is. |

Believe it or not, they would not take this over the phone.....they wanted to speak to Ryon. My question was: "What the heck would they do if Ryon couldn't speak?" Anyway, yes, they said to fill out the application online....would have to be sitting with Ryon so that he could answer questions. Problem is that they don't have a computer in the room yet. Hopefully, they can get this taken care of soon.
You can fill it out for him, it will have a spot that says is someone filling this out for you His Social worker can do this His mom can do this He can hire a firm to do this |

YES do it now Get the biggest baddest Meanest one you can find |

| Yaya - 2011-02-14 6:35 PM SG. - 2011-02-14 6:05 PM Yes go ahead and get the ball rolling on disability you just have to prove he will be disabled for at least 6 months
YOu can do it all online!!!!
THEN when you are on disability for 12 months then you become eligible for medicare Believe it or not, they would not take this over the phone.....they wanted to speak to Ryon. My question was: "What the heck would they do if Ryon couldn't speak?" Anyway, yes, they said to fill out the application online....would have to be sitting with Ryon so that he could answer questions. Problem is that they don't have a computer in the room yet. Hopefully, they can get this taken care of soon.
As I said earlier, I used to work for social security in their disability adjudication services department processing these very claims day end and day out. The social security has very rigid rules and we were monitored constantly. We were not even allowed to talk to someone's spouse unless we had documented verbal confirmation that it was allowed or had it in writing, most of us followed this rule and there are some that always felt weird doing it, but it was a rule and it could cost you your job. They can't take an application over the phone unless they can speak to the applicant directly or get verbal consent from the applicant to speak with someone else on their behalf. If he couldn't speak then that would be different, someone could speak for him, but once he was able to speak again, they would want to talk with him. We dealt with this everyday with stroke patients. Online is the way to go, they will call if they need additional information. Once they are done with it at the field office he will be contacted by a disability adjudicator and they will start the process of requesting all his medical records and getting background info and send him lots of lovely paperwork to fill out. On the application it will ask that he list all the jobs he has had for the last 15 years, make sure this is completed as much as possible, they really want the type of jobs he had, how long he was at each job and his specific duties at his job, if this is done in the beginning it will save from receiving a document similar to it in the mail weeks later asking him to complete it again in more detail, lol.
I'm not sure SG where you got those numbers from and please don't take this as me arguing with you, I know you didn't just pull those out of a hat and have a basis for them. I just wanted to state that it is a federal program and the guidelines are the same no matter what state you are in. The social security's legal definition of a disability is that a person must have a physical and/or mental impairment that has lasted or is expected to last for a period of twelve months or longer or expected to result in death. This definition was used to assess all of our cases. I just recently quit working for them but this was the policy when I worked there. He will need proof via a doctor's assessment that he will be disabled for at least twelve months and medicare will kick in after 18 months. Like I said before he will probably be put on a 3 month medical deferment and then evaluated, but that won't really delay anything since there is a 5 month waiting period before you can receive benefits anyhow. This is all information for Title II disability which is the one you receive from working and paying FICA. The other program is Title IV and it is subject to income and resource limits and is available to those who have never worked and are disabled or who once worked but haven't worked enough qualifying quarters or didn't work a job where it was considered substantial gainful employment, etc.
Oddly enough, I used to work personal injury as well and yes, for a case like this, please seek out the best personal injury attorney in the state.
As far as the disability, if he gets denied, and don't believe the rumors about being denied three times before getting approved, he very well could get approved the first time out, tell him to file a reconsideration instead of filing a new application. Filing a reconsideration will protect his original application date, etc. Believe it or not we always encouraged reconsiderations as they protect the applicant and you never know when someone may have made an error and it gets discovered on recon. or his condition has changed and now he meets a different criteria.
I surely hope this helps, sorry so long, just wanted to give the most information possible.

Location: Here | No offense... It was what I read on their website. I know you have to be disabled for 6 months for it get started and it has to last at least 12. Sorry I wasn't clear on that... But you need to get it started now on the application process so that you can have everything ready in place. But I know guidelines also vary some from state to state... But Yaya, please tell De to get thist started asap.!!! http://www.ssa.gov/applyfordisability/

Ok, thanks, I was curious. You know I didn't even know that was on their site, I worked for the DAS, used to be the DDS or is still called that in some states. Anyhow, those are great links you posted for them, they give a lot of great detail about the process without filling up the page like I did, hehe!!
Yes, SG is right, please start this asap!! This can be done separately from any personal injury claim, I had claimants that had pending Worker's Compensation claims and we were still able to process their claim.
Ok, I'm done now back to what this post is for, my thoughts are with Ryon and his mom!! |

| one more suggestion: make photo copies of everything you fill our, or submit. copy every single page. and write down names of people you contact, dates and time. be very vigilant in keeping track of everything you do and to whom you have spoken to. that was so nice of the poster (toughenough) to explain the info and time lines. and SG, those sites to go to may prove very helpful. continued prayers for Ryon.

Location: Tom, Oklahoma | BHW Family!......today is a beautiful day in Little Rock. I went home last night to do some laundry and sleep in my bed! Ryon's fiancee came to Little Rock to spend Valentine's Day with him. I got back up here a little after noon.
Ryon is doing good. He is having some pain, (managing with meds) but they are sitting him up in a chair 4 hours a day, and he has started PT. He is going to be working on getting his arms/shoulders and hands stronger. They finally have his kidney infection under control, and his lungs are clearing up now that I turned the air back on in his air mattress. (yes, it was unbelieveable)
I am in the hospital resource room now, I have been reading up on applying online for SSI Disability. I have to get a few things together before I can start the application for Ryon. (and yes, Ryon has called his attorney)
yes, we will get thru this with the Lord's help!
Thank you all for the love and continued prayers ya'll are sending our way. Love to all......... de |

When Adriann was in the hospital and in such serious condition, the hospital staff did do an amazing job but, even then, there were several things and ideas that we had or noticed...or caught...that might have gone otherwise unnoticed or undone. You guys are that extra set of eyes that help ensure nothing is missed. I kept a journal and that came in handy several times over the course of her recovery. It helped me, as well, because the whole thing just gets very exhausting and it is sometimes hard to remember one day from another.
Did I miss the 4 broken vert. update? I need to go back and reread.....

Location: Tom, Oklahoma | Hello from the Resource Room at UAMS! We are doing good. They are weaning Ryon off of some pain killers and meds, getting him ready to go to a rehab facility. So far, none are taking us..........so I'm not gonna worry about it anymore, God will put us where he wants us. I have no doubt. I applied for Ryons SSI disabiliy online today, it was not as bad as I thought it was gonna be........ Our social worker did contact teh Texas Rehibilitation Commission, and they said, sorry, wish we could do something............ Ok, headed back up to be with Ryon, I know he thinks I've abandoned him, been down here all morning! hugs, and love to you all....... |

Susi.........Ryon said that they were not concerned about those vertabraes........they could have been an old injury? who knows, he has rode those ole horses when he was younger, and got darted into the ground more than once on those calf horses when he was a kid........They did not seem to think that his back was a concern.
I have been keeping a journal also.......you are right, hard to remember one day to the next.......it all runs together. thank you so much for the continued prayers....... all of you! |

Ha! I can believe that, with regard to the old injuries!! I had a foot problem recently and finally went into the dr. & they took some film. Came back & said, "Ummm....you have 5 old fractures in that foot. They aren't the problem, but they're there." It happened with a shoulder injury, too. Same situation. The response, "Uh, do you have any idea when you fractured that collarbone? It's old & healed. But it's ugly." Yes. Horses are grand!
I'm so very thankful that you have had some bright spots in Ryon's progress to lighten the difficult burdens. Keep your sense of humor and laugh at every opportunity...even if some people look at you funny..... |

We are having a good day. He is sitting up in a chair right now, PT just left, and she worked him pretty good! not much strength or dexterity in his left hand. Still no feeling or sensation from the collar bone down
Ryons right hand is his strongest hand . He can eat and get his own drink with is right hand! The PT told us that it could be up to 6 weeks before the swelling in the spinal cord goes down enough for us to know where he is going to be. So we have a LONG way to go. Thank each of you for your continued prayers. They are still needed. Blessings to you all! |

Yep! We are way excited to have the boy back in Texas!!! He is only 50 min. from the house now instead of 3.5 hours!
He was grinning from ear to ear when they got him off of the ambulance.......he said he slept all the way, so he guesses he had a good trip. lol
The only concern now is........the Harrisons tend to be a loud bunch. Our younger son Casey stopped by, and they could probably be heard down at the cafeteria. LOL this rehab center has only older people in it.......so trust me, it will never be the same! LOL
The work begins tomorrow! Ryon is ready! Please continue to pray! |

He did not eat very well today....guess because he was so tired.
Thank you all for your continued prayers..... for those keeping up with Chancey, please remember her in your prayers tonight. She is having a rough time of it. It just breaks my heart, because I know what that precious family is going thru. There is no anguish like watching your child suffer.

Location: Tom, Oklahoma | I was not going to go to Texarkana today. Told Ryon when I left last night that I would see him Thurs.........then while I was feeding cows around lunch, Janna called, said she had talked to Ryon, and that "they dropped him on his head this morning". WHAT?? Ryon did not want her to tell me.......(haha, wonder why), but it scared her, so she told me anyway. He said he neck was hurting.......etc.
So..........I fly home, get in my truck and head to Texarkana.......Get there, Ryon is laying in bed dozing.........why are you here Mom? I said, I heard you got dropped on your head..........he said he landed on a pillow, that it just mostly scared him, and yes, it did hurt his neck some, but he was just sore from working the last 2 days.
He said that they had a big meeting after it happened.....I'm sure some heads rolled.......but it was never mentioned to me. Looks like no harm done, (thank the Lord!!) and they are just keeping a close eye on him.
During Rehab today, Ryon said that he rolled his own wheel chair alot more by himself. he was so much stronger, and all this happened after the "dropping on the head" incident.
We are still praying for more feeling and movement! Thank you for your continued prayers!
Prayers going up for Chancey tonight.,,, .....Lord bless them! They are having such a hard time right now. |

Location: Tom, Oklahoma | Spent the day with Ryon. He was doing good. yesterday, he had blood pressure problems, when he was doing his rehab, it bottomed out, and made him feel sick, so the quit and put a "abdominal binder" on him. That helped his bp come back up, so he got to go back to work after lunch.
I got there today around 2:30. He was through we rehab, and in quite a bit of pain., but it got better by 4pm..........had a good visit, he is truly my inspiration! He has the best attitude!
I had minutes put on his phone, then got us some Chinese (Shogun) for dinner! We ate like pigs! ;)
Keep praying! We are praying for more feeling! I know that we serve a God of miracles! Just look what He has already done for Ryon and Chancey! Thank You Lord!!! |

We'll get him to drinkin' that Muscle Milk one way or another!
I talked to v (can't remember all of it, will go check and post it in a minute. lol) today, and she said he needed to be drinking Muscle Milk for his skin. A HUGE risk for quads is bed sores. So after talking to V, I sent Janna to the store for some of it on her way to see Ryon this evening. I called to see if had drank it......................no. He hated the taste of it. So needless to say I may have to go to Texarkana tomorrow and kick his butt! grrrrrr.
He was running a low grade fever this morning.......he thinks probably from his lungs got a little junky. He was up most of the day today, and his fever went down.

| WOW! Just got on this site by chance. Reading this story brought tears to my eyes. Our son was injured 3 yrs. ago with a C5 spinal cord injury, and we went through what you are going through now! It is a long slow road for both you and your son. The prayers do soooo much to keep you uplifted! The BHW prayer group were amazing for us back then also. If you ever need someone to talk with, or to just "cry" to let me know.
Prayers sent your way!

Thank you so much Scott. We are holdin' our own!
I did not go to Texarkana today. Had some business I needed to take care of. It is so hard to stay away from him for even a day. I talked to him around lunch, and he was in great spirits........needing me to bring him some sweat pants. lol Will do that tomorrow.
I talked to his Case Worker this evening.. She said that they had their weekly patient evaluations today........Ryon is still too weak to transfer himself from bed to chair, but doing good in the wheel chair once he gets there. Ryon said that today he started lifting weights......he's getting stronger every day! :)

Location: Tom, Oklahoma | I had lunch with Ryon today. He is doing good.........rolled his own wheel chair over half way to the cafeteria before he got tired! He is making progress and getting stronger! Then he went back to therapy........by 3pm, he was ready for a nap, just wore out. They put him back in bed, I suggested that he lay on his side, he said it felt wonderful!....he has been flat on his back since Feb. 2. I had suggested it before, but he was scared to lay any other way but on his back........now that he is stronger, he has more confidence to lay on his side. (I think he was scared he would roll onto his belly and not be able to right himself.) So we are taking baby steps and making progress! Thank you Lord!
Thank you all for continuing to lift Ryon up in prayer! Hugs to you all! |

Location: Tom, Oklahoma | I studied all day. I am so excited about Reflexology!! Some spinal cord patients are having great results with it, and it is just another aspect of Acupressure. (like working on the ting points of a horse!) I could not wait to try it out on Ryon, so I took off to Texarkana around 3. When I got there, Ryon was in some BAD pain..his LOWER BACK was hurting him! YEA!!!! Any pain below the break is GOOD PAIN!! :D
So when I got there and started talking about Reflexology, it was the last thing he wanted to hear. (I have given him him 2 mini Acupressure treatments on his back ) He said Mom, I don't want no voodoo crap! LOL but I finally talked him into letting me do a treatment on him. By the time I left at 6pm, he was going to sleep! pain eased. So I'm thinking there is something to this Reflexology.
I always thought that God lead me to Acupressure because I had a crippled horse......lol......but now I know why He REALLY lead me to Acupressure. :) Everyone please keep praying!!
eta.........Thank you all for hangin' in there with us! Hugs and love!
Oh yea, Ryon did have some "tingles" in his right leg while I did the Reflexology on him.

WONDERFUL NEWS Continued prayers for MORE twinges |

Location: Tom, Oklahoma | I spent yesterday afternoon with Ryon. He had alot of company, but I did get to work on his hands before they came to give him a shower. Reflexology........I'm thinkin' this is some NEAT stuff! Wow worthy! Ryon was feeling tingles in place he has had no tingles! I did not get to work on Ryon's feet........only his hands. He has very little feeling (really next to none) in his left hand.......but while I was working on that hand, he would feel tingles........like the nerves trying to reconnect. Also, after I worked on that left hand he could "twitch" his pointer finger....which had NO movement before.
We are just trusting in God.........where He leads..........
Thank you all for the continued prayers! We need them so badly!

Location: Tom, Oklahoma | neverwas, srs and all of you who are continuing to pray......thank you so much!
I spent quite a bit of time with Ryon yesterday. His balance is getting better. He has no feeling in his trunk, and it has been a battle, learning how to use those muscles when he can't feel them. But it is getting better/stronger everyday.
I also did another Reflexology treatment on him. (one on his hands, one on his feet) He is feeling more tingles. I am both excited and scared about it. Excited that it could be a good thing.........scared that it might not be. I have researched it, and tingles are usually considered good. It's the "pins and needles" pain that is not. And I do know that he has already had some bad back pain that I was able to manage with Acupressure of his Back Shu Association points. The pain went away, and has not come back and that was 3 or 4 days ago. So please keep praying that these tingles are good things!
He now has an infection under his big toe nail. The dr. is on it today. When I was looking at it last night, he said "owww, don't!". So I don't know if it really hurt, or if he knew it should be hurting.
This SCI thing is weird. |

Ryon had a rough day. His blood pressure kept bottoming out. They stopped his therapy early, took him back to the room and started him on some IV fluids, they think he is dehydrated. We'll know tomorrow if it helped......
This evening, the wound person came in and removed most of his big toe nail. (the infection).....He said it burned. :)
While I was giving him is Reflexology treatment.....he felt more tingles!! Thank you Lord!! Then today, during his therapy, the PT was raising his leg straight up, and Ryon said he felt the muscles pull in the back of his leg.......he could FEEL it!!!!!! We are so excited!! Keep praying!! God is hearing us!!!

LOL! Come on down Scott and get in line! I'll get to you eventually!
eta: seriously, find someone in your area who does it and get a treatment. Everyone I have worked on say it is unbelievable.! I gotta go hire someone myself. (although you can work on yourself, imo, it is not as relaxing)

spent yesterday afternoon with Ryon. When I got there he was in the Gym.....and was getting tired, he had had a hard day. I came in and sat down by him, not knowing I had set my purse on the little toe side of his foot. A couple of minutes after I got there, Ryon leaned over and said "Mom, what is on my toes?" :D.......he felt my purse on his toes!!! Blessings! Blessings!! He felt pressure and tingling. I did a Reflexology treatment on his hands. We had a good visit and supper with he and Janna. Thank you all for your prayers that are filling heaven! God is hearing us!
His blood pressure was good.....he had just gotten dehydrated.

Location: Tom, Oklahoma | Hugs to all of you for the precious prayers being sent up for Ryon!
He is doing good.......getting stronger. Today, while I was there, he worked on his balance. In the gym, they have these huge square mats that are probably 6' across. They sat Ryon on that and had him reaching for his feet. He was able to balance himself and reach forward.......last week he could not do it. So he is making HUGE progress. Also, it seemed to me that he was having slightly more gripping action with his left hand (pointer and thumb) He has had no dexterity in that hand,.......but even a nurse noticed it........so it wasn't just me. ;) Ryon said he thought it was just the reflex of his wrist doing it.......we'll see. (keep praying, God is working! :)
He is still having problems with his blood pressure. It is getting way to low, then he has to stop working and lay down. Prayers that God will take care of that too!
I'm headed down there in the morning for some training on transferring him. Blessings to you all! de |

Location: Tom, Oklahoma | I did not go to Texarkana today.....trying to get my house ready for Ryon to come home! We are turning our garage into a room for him until he gets better.......but his goal is to be independent, and I know it will happen! (then we will have a really neat game room! :) He is coming home in 7 days!!!
I spent the day with him yesterday. Still had blood pressure problems, but good rehab. His girlfriend has gotten goofy, and looks like she is gone. I know that has been hard on him, but trials always bring out the true character in a person.......right? We never have enough excitement around here. LOL

Location: Tom, Oklahoma | Sorry I have not posted an update in the last few days, but we are busier than "a cat covering it up"
Ryon is coming home TUESDAY!! We are frantically trying to get his room ready, (converting our garage to a 400 sq. ft bedroom for him). He is doing "ok". His blood pressure keeps dropping. :( bout the time he really starts working it drops dangerously low. He does not do it everyday, but it has already happened 3 days this week. And it makes him feel washed out afterwards. From what I understand, this is pretty normal for a SCI patient.
Wanta give a BIG shout out to Marty and Felicia Miller and Woody Woodruff for richly blessing our family!! Thank you all! (Marty and Felicia have given Ryon an Electric Wheelchair, and Woody is letting us use his back up handicap van so Ryon and I can run around until we find what we want)
We have been blessed beyond compare!! Thank you all for your continued prayers!! Love and Hugs!! Gotta go paint! :) de |

Location: Tom, Oklahoma | Just sitting down to try to unwind some. We have worked on Ryon's room ALL DAY. (we are turning our garage into a 400 sq. ft room for him) A couple of our dear friends and Yaya came to help us today. (don't know what we would have done without them!!) We finished all the painting, just some touch ups tomorrow, then starting on the floor.
I did not talk to Ryon today, but Casey had to go to Texarkana to The Home Depot, so he stopped by and visited. I think Ryon is kinda worried about his room, because the last time he saw it, it was Rick's shop! LOLOL It has really been hard for him to get excited about it. LOL I will take pictures as soon as we finish, (I could kick myself for not taking before and afters) We have to get the floor finished tomorrow (staining concrete) and I am dreading it big time! |

Agreed!
I'm so sorry to read that Ryon has yet another cross to bear regarding his ex-girlfriend. Life's changes and challenges definitely have a way of sifting out loyalties. I'm very excited to read that he'll be coming home soon!! Wish I lived closer and could be there to help with the room prep. Something is not right with me...I love that sort of stuff!!
I continue to lift Ryon and Chancey up in prayer for God's merciful healing. |

yes indeed, we are the strange ones........haha!.........I love to paint, decorate etc also. Just wish it were under different circumstances!! (honestly, this needed to be done 4 years ago, although you won't get Rick to admit it! LOL) I don't know what I would have done without yaya this weekend, she worked her tail off painting! If you lived closer Susi, we dang sure would have put you to work! LOL

Location: Tom, Oklahoma | Sorry I have not updated since Ryon got home, but it has been crazy! It is so great having him home.....and we are really getting to see what we are made of now.
We broke records this morning, it only took me 40 min. to get him up and going instead of 1 hour! LOL FINALLY learned how to work the Lift we have.........it was looking like we were going to need 2 people just to get him in the chair, but Ryon and I nailed it this morning ourselves! :D This is a learning experience, and we are getting better at it everyday.
The last couple of days, he has not felt to good......hopefully tomorrow will be better for him. We had Direct tv installed in his room today, so that will make his rest time easier. I think he was staying up to much......(like alllllll day!) ...needs more rest around mid day, then back up in the evenings.
He is getting more feeling back in his legs, feet and back. 2 weeks ago, at rehab, they put him into a low back chair (the one he was using was a high back) he hated the low back chair because he could not feel his back. 1 week later, (when we brought him home) we put him back in the low back chair and he could FEEL his back! :) This week, as I have given him reflexology treatments, he has felt where I am working, down to the location on the foot. But so far, no major movement.........only a slight movement in a right leg muscle behind the knee. Yes, we are excited!
Thank you all for the continued prayers!

Ryon had a good morning...........but has not felt well since around 5pm. I know he probably just needs to get some rest, but he won't go to bed.
On a positive note,.....he is getting more "feeling" in his back and stomach. (really all over) He knows when I touch a foot, etc. We are really excited about it! Thank You Lord! Just wanted to pop on quick and check up on you and Ryon, De. I've not been on lately, but I wanted you to know that I think of you all so very often and lift you all up in prayer to our Merciful God.
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers Susi. We are holdin' our own. Ryon is doing good. Out-patient rehab tomorrow, every Tues. and Fri. for 6 weeks. :) |

Location: Tom, Oklahoma | Quick update.........we are having a lazy Sunday. Ryon is doing good. Getting more finger movement, still not much strength in hands, but we know we have to start somewhere. We are so thankful!!!
We have bought Ryon a handicap van. It is in great condition. It is such a blessing to be able to travel with no hassels. It does make him car sick but he is getting better with every ride.
Ryon's manuel wheel chair came in, we picked it up at rehab Friday. He will use it around the house to help strengthen his arms.
Thank you for all the continued prayers that are going up for Ryon! Please keep praying!!

The wheelchair made it!! It got here yesterday morning, I have just been too busy to post. And guess what..........we are not sure it is gonna work. I was going to take it to rehab with us today to see if it could be modified, but we were having lift problems on the van, so did not get a chance to take it. (lift problems seem to be battery, so hopefully an easy fix) the chair is a "mobility chair" and not a wheelchair. It is like a Hovearound that you see on TV. He cannot use his Rojo cushion with it unless he gets a different seat,....if he can. So we are still trying to figure out how we are going to make it work.
Ryon is doing good! We are still doing the Reflexology on him, and he is getting more movement in his fingers. Still no strength, but he is getting better at picking up things. Also, his left hand was completely lifeless, but now he can move his thumb and pointer finger. So things are looking better. He is also getting more feeling everywhere. he feels his feet, certain parts of his legs, and some places in his stomach. Yes, we are excited about this!!
Everyone please continue to pray..........we are only 7 weeks out, and still have lots of healing to do! |

Location: Tom, Oklahoma | CB, as for diet.........he is encouraged to eat lots of protien for his skin to help avoid pressure sores.......good thing too, my men are meat eaters, so that is pretty easy. Ryon does not have the appetite he used to have. He eats good things, just not much of it. We are doing pretty good. Has had blood pressure issues the last 2 days. yesterday, he just felt light headed , but this morning he nearly passed out when I got him in the chair. really scared me. So today, we have stayed close to home, and just taken it easy. (I think we got him up to quick this morning.....we know we need to take it slow, but had places to go! lol) |

Yes, we are doing the cranberry thing, and is on some high powered antibiotics. He is feeling better today, and told me when I put him to bed that he thinks he has this UTI whipped! Sure hope so.......I can't stand to see him feeling bad. |

Location: Tom, Oklahoma | Hello everyone! I know it has been a while since I updated ya'll on Ryon's progress, but if I don't have any major news.......I feel I'm just wastin' space. lol
We got back this evening from Little Rock. Ryon had Dr appointments with his Vascular and Neuro doctors. (they were follow up visits after surgery) He got good reports from both, and we do NOT have to go back! wooohooo! Now, it is just REHAB and more REHAB!
Ryon's attitude is good. He has been working hard getting stronger in his shoulders/arms. He getting more feeling in his legs/feet, but unfortunately, no strength or movement.
Thank you all for your continued prayers. I have faith that he will continue to just get better! Hugs to all! |

Sorry I have not updated in a while.........but it has been crazy around here. The roll of "caregiver" takes some getting used too. SO many adjustments in our lives right now.
Ryon's attitude is really good...........he deals with it so much better than I probably would. He does get down sometimes, and that is mainly because he needs more rehab right now, and is unable to get it. Still so much to learn about being able to live independently again! He did not have insurance, so therefore he is having to wait to be approved for SSDI. I filed for it Feb. 23, and we are still waiting. "They" say that it takes anywhere from 3-6 months. So I guess in our case, 6 or 7 months. lol.
thank God for the wonderful people who put on his benefit barrel race!! We were able to pay for his Van, (with wheelchair lift) and are working on getting his electric wheelchair now.......it has also helped pay for his medications he has to be on.
we are adjusting more everyday, not saying you ever get used to dealing with a SCI. |

Hello Ms Carm! So good to see you here! I just have to tell everyone this story......every since Ryon got hurt in Feb., he has has no triceps on the left arm. When he holds his arm up and tries to push up with his hand, he cannot do it. Just no muscles or nerves in the triceps. Yesterday, he was telling a visitor about his triceps, and proceeded to show them that he could not raise his arm over his head.....when he attempted to raise his arm, it worked! !!!!! He could actually raise his arm over his head. All of our eyes bout bugged out of our heads!! LOL I'm so thankful to be able to share this story! He has gotten a little bit back!! :D Thank you Lord! Yes, Carm, our Lord does have a plan! |
