Does anyone out there ride in a Caldwell barrel saddle, I am looking for a very deep seat for a hard turning horse and was wondering what the Caldwell was like? Any suggestions?

I am a Caldwell fan through & through (that should be my "name" wink, wink...powers that be, LOL

They are the best saddle money can buy IMO. Quality hand made with the best materials and they last forever. I have had probably a dozen of them between trying the different trees, ground seats, seat sizes (I have fluctuated in weight quite a bit the last 8 years). I just love them.

You are going to get nay-sayers, but that will happen with any product.

The high ground seat made all the difference in the world for me. By far my favorite saddle ever as far as quality, riding and running in it. Yes...it will make a huge difference especially with the high ground seat.

I just bought me a Caldwell last week... I"m so tickled with it, I hav'nt got to try it out yet, because of the weather and having different things come up. But cant wait to get it on my horse... have been wanting one for a long long time so finally decided it was time. Here is mine.

It's ok, a for effort.

I ordered a brand new with a rocket tree last year because I couldn't find that saddle with that tree used. The only thing I don't like is my seat is too deep I'm having trouble to get up when I leave the turns. I tried putting my stirrups a little higher that helped some. Going to BBR in april and see if they have anything that I could trade with not such deep seat unless they are all like that? does anyone know if they have different deepness to their seats?

No they are not all this way.  It depends on what ground seat you have on yours.  Talk to Charon at BBR and see if she can fix yours instead of trading for a different one.

Had friends with Caldwell's, was told Oh just try it, didn't want to because of the things I had heard about them. Well, one of those friends had hers on my horse and I tried it. WRONG thing to do. I then was on a mission to find one, hopefully, used. Couple months later another friend had an almost brand new one posted on FB, I got it to try and I now own it!! My saddle I had I thought was awesome and even after buying my Caldwell Rocket I made a run in my old saddle and NO comparison. I love love love my Caldwell. My horse also leaves very hard and is so powerful but I stay with him in the caldwell.

I had a friend of mine tryout my Promax a few years ago with no intention of selling it but I did not have a horse at the time to use it on.  She fell in love with it and I decided to sell it to her because they were kicking butt in it.  Fast forward a couple of years and I now need a ProMax so I had to order a new one. lol

My complaint also but I guess you can't have butter soft leather without the oil problem.

roanrider - 2014-03-13 9:06 PM I have 3 Caldwell's and love them.  Can hardly ride in anything else.  My only complaint is my jeans get stained from the oil.
My complaint also but I guess you can't have butter soft leather without the oil problem.

I've got a lighter oil saddle and it's pretty buttery, but it doesn't stain - thankfully!

Mine never has either.  However, my husband's has stained his jeans, as he gets the dark oil.  I think all Caldwell's are nice, no matter what style, pattern you have.  I will always order a pro max tree too.  I know they are an investment though.  I doubt I would have spent that type of money when I was younger.  (Didn't have it anyway).  I am ordering another one for me and we are trading one of my husband's.

Loved everything about my Caldwell.  Just make for darn sure it does fit your horse.  Just like any other saddle out there.  I was  actually able to sell mine for a little more then what I paid when I bought it used so the nice thing is that they will hold their value.  I too had issues not getting out of my seat but raising my stirrups helped.
