I searched and all searches are older, so I thought I would see what everyone recommends for ulcer prevention.

I already feed alfalfa, cubes, and a flake a day and all on a round bale or pasture 22/7

I think there are a ton of options out there. I don't think I haul enough to be worried about ulcers just yet. But I think you're on the right track with the alfalfa. I do stuff a few flakes of alfalfa in their haynets on the way to races and while they are tied to the trailer. I do use CEP Gut check too right before I put them into the trailer. I've never really suspected ulcers in any of mine so I can't say that it works but I can say that I haven't had any issues while using it. My horses love the Gut Check I can just squirt it right into their mouth and they always want more.  I've heard great things about ulcerguard and U-7 gastric also I do keep outlast treats in my trailer and pop a few of them when we get to races. Not something I feed daily though. Nutrena makes a similar one that's a tad cheaper called Digestive balance and stride animal health launched Gastrophix. I kinda think those 3 are about the same ... just different price points. Some people swear by zesterra... I prefer the Gut Check over that personally.

U7 liquid is amazing. I wouldn't hesitate to use it if I needed it.

We gave U-Gard pellets to a horse who was an ulcer candidate. My horses always get a lot of orchard grass hay and have pasture 24/7.

I also use CEP Gut Check. Some of mine get it daily, some just get it before hauling and at overnight shows.
The ones I give it to daily have the tendency to look really tucked up, and adding Gut Check has them looking more normal, so I'm not going to take them off it.

Now, can I ask you all... what you recommended, do you use daily or just day of a race?

This horse gets nervous when hauled and I just thought it might be something to keep from getting them.   I have no real experience with them

Thanks everyone!

Both Gardion and Redmond Daily can be given pre and post to make a big difference. I'd give on hauling day and race day.

I use MVP Gastro-plex daily pellets, and the paste when I run. It covers hindgut as well, which a lot don't.

I have been using Neutrabac PH for the last year and I have had great results. It is not an everyday supplement but can be if needed. The best part, its very cost effective and it works!

I love Stride Animal Health Gastro pHix. When I got my mare, she stressed and I suspected she had some stomach upset. I put her on 2 lbs a day until symptoms subsided (about a week to totally go away), then did 1 lb a day for another week or two. Now she gets it before I haul. I've given it before a ride too, but I usually just do alfalfa before I exercise her.

I just got a fresh bag in, so yes, I've seen the price tag (:

The MOST I have given is 2 lbs a day, and that was just until symptoms stopped.

It's a 44 lb bag. It lasts me a long time once I'm only giving a lb or so when I haul. Once you get past the sticker shock, it's really not bad and it WORKS!

I got a new guy right before Christmas. He has seemed a bit stressed from adjusting. I started him on this Sunday and by last night he was already noticably more relaxed. That's worth the price tag IMO.
