My mare started having painful cycles last spring. She's 7. Vet wants to try Regumate but the schedule sounded crazy.

What's the schedule? I gave it to my mare daily to control her crazy heat cycles. I was very pleased with it. It didn't completely keep her from cycling but it definitely took the edge off and shortened them immensely. It helped her tremendously.

Vet was talking days on, days off... It sounded like an awful lot to keep up with. You keep her on it all the time?

Good to hear. Do you give the generic orally?

10cc orally daily keeps mine from coming in at all.  We just put in on their feed.  I did have one mare that I had to give 20cc per day during the BBR to keep her from cycling, but that's rare.  Works great just don't get it on you, wear rubber gloves.  Can mess up your hormones as well.

Yes I gave it to her orally with a syringe 10cc daily.. I used those rubber kitchen gloves for that. Definitely don't want it on your skin! Best deal I found on it was thru chewy.com I had my vet put the prescription thru there. Fast free shipping. It settled that hag down within 48 hours of starting it.

My good mare had extremely painful cycles when I bought her 7 years ago. She has been on it every single day sense! No breaks no crazy schedules and she lives a happy healthy life! The generic did NOT work for her , it's not the same somehow . I have however been able to wean her down to7cc instead of 10 so a bottle lasts a lot longer . When I haul to races etc she does get full 10. She is 18 now so I'm going to see if I can get her down to 5cc

we use it on 2 of our horses and I keep them on it all season, otherwise I feel it causes them to go in and out of cycles making it more painful. You just need to give it around the same time of the day ie morning/evening. Hope this helps. If she has bad heat cycles I would just keep her on it and keep her comfortable.

I just realized the other part of your question,  I didn't use the generic. I used the original one daily. It's  $150 shipped from chewy for 1000ml bottle. I had it on autoship. It's well worth it!
