Based off of their papers and your pictures I personally would keep the gelding...but only after a thorough vet exam. I like his papers and have rode several with similar pedigrees and all were 1d/2d type horses. I feel the gelding is less of a gamble if he is clean physically. The only negative he has to me is being off the track and my record with those is that most of them have some sort of physical issue typically....I would have him checked make sure everything looks great and keep him. I like race breds more though and also I would want to keep the one who is broke and ready to start instead of gambling on liking the mare once she is broke. I have had a lot I liked from the ground but once on their back it was a different story
That's all very true. That's one thing that makes this decision so hard, I already click with the gelding and I do like the mare a lot, but there's a chance I won't like how she rides once she gets goin. The gelding is the smartest esaiest horse I've ever trained and in the time I've had him he's really made a lot of progress. My farrier thinks he may be a LITTLE arthritic in his right from knee but he said that he wouldn't be scared away by it personally because it didn't seem that bad at all and if he runs well enough it's worth the maintenance. He loves that horse lol

ย Sell the mare to me and I'll start roping on her. ย ;
)
are her pics up yet?
The gelding seems more marketable at this point. ย I like the mares 1/2 papers..Doc bar....some peppy san.....
Do you want to be hauling now, or does it matter?
Yeah her pics are up! She's a tad under on weight, but so is the gelding lol seems like every deal I find is because the horses are on the thin side. It doesn't matter to me a lot if the one I choose is ready to run this year because even if I did stick with the one already broke, they still want be real competitive until they're seasoned and it will probably take the whole summer to get them going the way I want before I add speed much at all. It wouldn't take long to get the mare to the same point the geldings at, just a matter of months, so him being broke does play a factor but not a HUGE one. And my boyfriends planning on turning his into a calf horse! She's a half sister to mine and I'm kicking myself for letting him have first pick because I really like her lol he may end up selling her though If he can't take her to school with him second semester
