Location: Oregon | My horse had an abcess in his mouth like in his top lip about a month ago...
It healed and every thing was fine ...
Now he has another one in a different spot in his top Lip?!
I have personally never dealt with this and I was wondering
If any one else has ever had this happen?

Location: Bandera, TX | A fee years ago my mare quit eating... Took to equine vet dentist and she found a lump on the side of her cheek. Long story short, a 3 inch piece of fine wire, which I assume was in her hay poked its way into her cheek and her body encapsulated it. Guided by ultra sound the vet cut it out from the outside.
Totally crazy, but better in the cheek than a perforated gut. Probably not what your horse has, but food could give him some alergic reaction? What do the sores look like? |

| There is a weed who's seed heads can work their way into the horse's inner lips and form abscesses. It gets baled up in hay and is eaten-can't remember the name of the weed/grass. |

a friend of mines western pleasure show mare had the same thing happen to her. it took several abcesses in her mouth and on her face and they finally x-rayed it and found the little piece of wire that had worked its way up into her jaw |

Location: Oregon | They just look like bumps then they pop then
It's a hole then it heals .... It obviously is bothering him this time
When last time I didn't even notice a difference in him till after it
Popped ... I know I need to get his teeth done which I was planning
To do very soon but this time of year sucks!!
I just have never dealt with any abcess in years
And never one in their mouth! |

| Try putting hi on lysine as if it was a cold sore. Had a friends horse years ago get them put him on that and they cleared up and never came back |

| We used a feed through but a topical would likely clear up the visible one fast! His was a herpes strain I guess because lysine helps that. In any case feed through and the topical if you want but definatly feed it for a couple of months |

Yep, years ago my stud was being a bear in the pen. Took him to the vet thinking he had a bad tooth. Instead he had numerous abcesses from foxtail. Horrible stuff and the crappy thing was the only way he got it was because I was hauling with another girl and she gave him her horses hay without me knowing it. |

Location: Oklahoma | It could also be vesicular stomatitis/summer sores. A single dose of ivermectin is enough in minor cases to take care of the Habronema . Some get sores that need antibotics to help heal.
Are there sand burrs in the hay that you may not be able to see? I would definitely be going through your hay with a fine toothed comb. |

Oh man that weed is some wicked stuff to deal with, bought a Mini last year and I bought him because I felt sorry for him, his lips were so swollen, I had to bring him home to help him and thats what I found were those horrible weeds stuck in his gums and working themselfs really deep. |

Well I can't say no but I go threw his hay every time I give him any
and I haven't seen anything I will look again.. Right now he is getting
Alfalfa grass hay and bent grass so he always has something to munch on
..... But tonight me and my friend inspected his teeth
And she brought up that he teeth are really uneven
And when he is pressing on the ground or in his hay bag to eat
His teeth may be irritating his gums and his lip and causing problems for him....
so NOW I really need some one to buy a saddle from me to get his teeth done...
And his grain he gets has lysine in it? So would I still try to get lysine to feed through? |
