Sorry for all my posts about the accident but we've never been through something like this.

The driver that hit us insurance company got in contact with caleb about what they are going to do...they are covering the price of what it will cost to fix the truck and a check is in route! They are paying medical bills and covering lost wages from him being off work and paid to get us a rental truck to keep until our truck is fixed.

Now, she is coming to our home tomorrow to discuss "pain and suffering" are they wanting to give us an amount of money? Not sure why they are being so easy and handing us things. Is this normal?

They want you to settle for a lower amount that way if down the road Caleb has more medical pain/problems, they will not be responsible for covering that. My advise is not to settle yet.

Do NOT settle for anything now!!! They want you to settle now as that would be alot cheaper for them. Once you settle, they will make you sign a release exolving them of ANY future problems from this accident. Most times, it takes quite a while for the full effect of injuries to become appearant and you will be left holding the bag with no responsability on their part and I gaurantee you, they will low ball you with a rediculas offer. Ask the insurance company WHAT the drivers policy amount was. Most policies have a $300,000 cap with a $100,000 per injured person. They will try to offer you like $5 or $10,000 thinking you'll take it and then if they find out 6 months from now he has permanent damage that will effect his job or quality of life you cant go back to them. You have already released them of any and all reponsability. I know all this as we are just now getting done dealing with the insurance company from the drunk driver who ran a red light and t-boned me going 90+ mph. DONT settle right now. Just remimber, these people ( insurance companies ) are NOT your friend. They dont care about you at all. They only care about their bottom line. They are there to make money. Not spend money.

^^^^ ALL of the above.........they just want to settle so that you will have no "future" claims against them should any problems arise.....Unless you are VERY comfortable with the amount and don't have any qualms about future medical problems, don't settle just yet.....you can stall them by saying that he has "more" appointments, etc....Just a hint......DO NOT EVER mention "lawyer".....that will shut them down faster than you can blink an eye.

Talk with your insurance company as well or consult an attorney for advice... but they will both tell you the exact same thing. Don't settle.
I settled a few weeks after my wreck and come to find out I had a bone chip in my back... Surgery was wayyyy more expensive than what I settled for. I just thought I was sore...

Β Even if he has no injuries...still don't settle?Β

Even with no injuries don't settle now, as I have known a few people who were in crashes had a sore neck for a few days, then months later the sore neck re occurs and chiro, docs say due to whiplash.

Scar tissue can form and cause more pain then the individual experienced at the initial crash

Yes do not settle this soon!! Read anything you sign very carefully too. We got rear ended on vacation and it almost totaled my husband's Explorer, very violent wreck. They mailed us a check for $1000 and acted all surprised when I mailed it back LOL. Long story short, they still haven't paid my $7k ER bill where I got a CT scan, haven't paid my chiropractor bill (his wife calls to remind me of this often), and I'm getting fed up so I'm thinking about talking with a lawyer. I don't want to get a lawyer because they'll end up with a good chunk of whatever settlement we end up with, but I'm tired of getting harassed over unpaid bills. I'm 99% sure the girl that hit us was drunk or high but the cop kept brushing it off saying she wasn't, and that impairment was his specialty. Jerk. I think she had an important last name in that town or something.

Sorry I got all fired up and rambled on and on!! I still get so mad about it and it's been 5 months. Steam starts coming out of my ears!!!

I'd hire a lawyer to be present at that meeting. Insurance companies speak in a lot of mumbo jumbo, it is important to understand what they are saying 100%

I would get your insurance company involved.  They will pay and then go after the other insurance company!

I was hit in a car wreck and had to hobble all over campus to and from classes with a stretched ACL. They paid all my medical bills after my physical therapy was over and at the end of the semester they wanted to know an amount I was comfortable with for the incident. I told them the cost of my schooling for that semester seemed sufficient and I felt ok. I don't think my knee will ever be perfect exactly but I sure do not need/want surgery for it. I'm still satisfied with that amount although greedy me could have said more. It seemed a fair trade to me.

As for your situation- did you miss any events or have to hire someone to haul something. Figure those type costs of your missed experiences. I might not be the best to answer, but I saw no need to name a rediculous amount myself. OOORRRRR if you want an air ride system on your new truck and trailer- tell them that cost. Need a college fund- name a price. Fully fund a Roth IRA for the year- that figure. Give the figure a reason.
