Stepping off of the third

My mare seems to have some trouble getting that last step on her third barrel. It varies as to how much she comes off of it but I have yet to make a run
(other than exh.
) that she finishes it nice. She hasnt been hauled much, so I know she'll have some inconsistencies but it seems to happen too often. I'm not sure if its me or her I know I'll let off the rein early sometimes and then just give her her head because I dont want to hold her there Or I let off in a run early on and now its a habit of hers
(and mine
). When doing slow work I always make her over finish and go to the fence or I'll pick her up and move her shoulders to over finish it
(I pick her up on the right, so more a counter step
) so she'll bring her shoulders through a little more. In her exhibitions she finishes it fine at a lope. She's done it with having different pockets.
More info: She is 7 now but wasnt started until she was 6, I've had her two years. She's been quite the challenge but I'm pretty happy with how she's turning out. She's very athletic amd responsive she just has a big independent personality so I have to choose my battles. She just started getting hauled off and on in June and has been to about 10 shows since then, I'm not sure if she's on track with her seasoning or not. I had the hardest time getting this horse to rate but the last barrel race she was rating like a champ when I sat
(which happened to be half across the pen so we knocked that run
). When running her you have to get the inside nose or she cut her pocket, if I have her nose I'm usually safe knock wise.
Okay thats all I can think to say right now sorry if this is a book of pointless info
. So just wondering whats going on with our third is all and some ways to sharpen it a little more. Thanks!

(I sat too early in this run, and am flapping my arms all over so try to just watch the third, and excuse the monkey/chicken in the saddle

I found myself watching your first barrel more than I was your third barrel. Any reason why you 2 hand around the first and not the rest? I like how you set up for the third, and I honestly think you are losing more time at your first than you are stepping off the third.
As far as stepping off goes- has she always done this or just as you season her? Ever had her checked out for soreness?

I know my first can get messy, its all in my approach and how much she's hunting it. If I bring her in correctly she'll get it so I wasnt too worried about it in these runs because she'll miss it in one and the nail it in another.
(I usually run her twice, and she always gets in in atleast one of the runs
)
Oh and no reason for that I'm actually in the midst of breaking that habit with her. I just found out in every run on my old gelding I rode two handed around the first every time without even realizing. She'll be more likely to rate if I going to one hand at it so her going by it should go away.
She only steps off in her runs at shows, never at home or loping through and exhibition.
