Has anyone ever seen a connection between feeding Rice Bran and Colic?  Thanks

It actually has the opposite effect. Lots of fat and fibre to keep things moving and its cool calories.

Having said that, I did have 2 horses simultaneously colic on Renew Gold, that I believe has coconut in it. But its rare, mine just didn't do well on it, but others have done great. JMHO.

Ok...thanks that is what I was hoping...we just had an older horse colic that has never coliced in his life and 2 weeks ago we started him on some rice bran.  That is the only thing different that we have done.  I just wanted to be sure.  Thanks

Are you feeding the rice bran dry, as a supplement? Or are you soaking it before feeding?

What brand is it? Is it one of the stabilized kinds?

In general, horses tolerate straight stabilized rice bran well. If you have been feeding it for two weeks I would look to something else to be the cause of the colic. Same with Renew Gold. Two at once would point to something else since those are the only two we have ever heard of. Not saying they did not colic, just that both having the only sensitivity we have seen in one barn would be highly unusual. Raw rice bran is a different story. Because of the way it is handled, raw rice bran has the potential for significant contamination. I know people who say they have used for years, but it only takes once. Stabilized rice bran is a completely different product.
