Just curious if anyone has any experience with offspring of DV. More curious about them on the Dam's side but would love to hear any info. Thanks in advance!

Oh, Dr. Luv! Your services are needed here!

Dr. Luv stood him in the last year's of his life. Prior to that, he stood here in Louisiana. I saw him several times as he stood about 20 miles from my house. He was impressive. Barrel pen, I can't tell you much about. As a race horse, he was proven on the track and as a sire. He sired one of my favorite race horses, Vals Fortune. He was huge in LA and tough to beat. He won over a million dollars.

LOL you are too funny.

I will ask Dr. Luv to get on here. But hopefully for the time being my response will suffice.

I can tell you the Dashing Val's are like a fine wine. They get better with age. They are probably what most barrel racers would shy away from as two or three year olds. They aren't stupid or hot. Just opinionated, lol. I am riding one right now that I just started on the pattern. She was an orphan so we just let her grow up. She is 4 now. She was sent to the track to learn how to run and then brought home. I have had her back around 45 days and she is cruising a REALLY nice pattern. Might even bite the bullet and try a few 5 year old futurities with her. Regardless. She is like all the rest. She has an opinion, lets you know what it is, and then it is your turn to let her think what you are asking is in fact her idea. We have several Dashing Val broodmares. All of them are young. All are either buckskins or palominos. They are wicked fast. They have gone on to make excellent rodeo/open horses. Most never made it to the barrel pen as futurity horses because they were bred for the race track and were worth more money as race horses than barrel horses. One of his babies was even named Bull Doggin horse of the year and went to the NFR.  We still have frozen semen left on him and if I can talk my husband into it I might try it with my FWF mare and see what I get :-) but that is an expensive "trial".

We happened into a DV son and began standing him last year. He was well on his way to making an amazing head horse when he was injured. He is such a gentleman to be around and we have a daughter of his that is o/o a daughter of Dean Miracle that is the easiest filly I have ever dealt with. I love finding any information about DV. In our area not many people have any experience with them.

Once again, the calvary has arrived!!! The Dashing Vals can be pretty hot early on. When they finally give in, and they WILL give in, they are very honest, dependable horses. Not the easiest to get started, but then settle in nicely. The grand get (through his daughters) don't seem to have those same tendencies. Really fast horses with lots of rate. We're keeping 5 or 6 daughters back to cross on our Corona Cartel stallion. Top trainer Heath Taylor once said Vals Fortune was without a doubt THE fastest horse he ever saddled.

I'm not sure if the pics on my phone will upload, but I'll try.

My Dashing Val mare is about 15.2-3 hands. She is solid, correct, and easy to be around. She retired sound from racing (ROM at 250, 330, 350 yards) and was a winner.

Her babies have all been super easy to work with and she's been bred to a variety (Hadtobenuts, Royal Shake Em, and Eyesa Special....she is in foal to Chasin Firewater right now). Her foals have been correct and good sized also...even her Eyesa Special is correct and that is saying something!

The gray below is her Royal Shake Em colt as a yearling...he is now a super pretty colt with at least 4 match wins to his name in west Texas.

The bay is her Hadtobenuts filly as a yearling. She is also a match winner, but she lives in Mexico.

Both owners have great things to say about them.

The mare I run now is a granddaughter of Dashing Val with Dash for Perks right there on the sire side (Dash ta Fame on sire side too) Willy nailed it right on the head! My mare is the most honest/opinionated/quirky horse to be around. She often gets bored with regular riding but as soon as you put her to work she means business. I often tell people if they took my mare for a day theyd bring her back but she works for me and I love running her!

I would pay big bucks to have back my DV daughter that died this past summer!  Ok, if i had big bucks... I have not heard of his get being hard to manage as youngsters, so mine must have gotten a lot of her mentality from her dam.  After a workout my toddler son would often ride in the saddle with me while cooling her out.  Mine had her moments and there certainly were times that it I actually had to think about things, as was said, but she never did anything stupid.  In fact, she developed a lot in me as a trainer.  Overall I found her to be full of try, a great work ethic and gorgeous to boot.

I've only handled one DV offspring and it was a young stallion. (He was out of a daughter of Chicks Beduino.) He was owned by an older (over 70yo) gentleman. The owner did most of the handling and this colt got a little pushy when breeding mares but he was never terrible or a danger to humans. He only got pushy because the owner was physically unable to reprimand him for undesirable behavior. But with the occasional "reminder" (and it didn't take much, just a few good yanks on the stud chain.) of how to behave while breeding from me or my partner, he was great. (And being reminded how to act by someone else carried over to the owner, rather than him immediately reverting back to undesirable behavior as soon as the owner was handed the lead rope.) The owner also rode him around the ranch and in the parade. I liked this colt so much that I bred mares to him 3 times. (He is the sire of my stallion.) He had multiple 1D and at least one pro rodeo barrel racing offspring from a limited number of foals as he died young due to a broken leg. I've wanted a DV daughter for YEARS. Ufortunately they are either out of my price range, 235679753 miles away, OR I am a "day late" and the sell right before I see their ad. LOL
