Location: USA | My horse has this real bad habit of safeing up in Indoor arenas. I can make a 16.5 in the same size outdoor arena but in Indoors she'll only make a 17-18.5 and I'm pushing her as much as I can. I don't have an Indoor Arena nor do I live to close to one, Does anyone have any tips when I'm riding her in Indoor arenas to keep her from safeing up? |

Location: USA | Should I get her hyped up before a run or keep hustling her through it? I have to be aggressive when I ride her through the second and a little back home but I have to really push and use leg |

| I would say she is doing what she was taught .... she was probably taught to rollback by running into the fence/wall in an indoor arena .... so she cautions up thinking this is the program ... NO MORE ROLLBACK TRAINING ...
Work her easy ...stop to spit, walk, trot, soft lope.. (goof off) around arena between the barrel and wall without any hesitations and do the same on the barrel pattern. You may need to move to a wider tear drop pattern coming into the barrel so she can see behind the barrel when she makes her turns .. use the same cues at these speeds you are going to use at full speed ...
Now ... look at yourself ... are you giving false cues and apprehension that the mare is reading as a cue ?? If you expect a horse to do something good or bad .. they will .....>>> So.. pay as much attention to you as you do the mare when you do the barrel exercises above and do not nag at the mare ... just make your new route and cues a focused habit for both of you .... that is 90 days of focused effort to make a habit ..
GOOD LUCK ... |

Location: MD | Some horses get backed off by running at the walls and it may take them many runs to get used to it. Some will never run as free in an indoor as they will outside. Being more aggressive may help, but in the end, the more you can ride/run them indoors, the more comfortable they will become. |

| I would do some time onlies in the building and trot her through keeping her freed up, making bigger circles around the barrel really maintaining forward motion. This helped my horse free up inside. I would take her clear to the fence past the barrel and do 1 big circle around it them come back a do a medium size circle around just focusing on keeping her moving forward and keeping her hind legs reaching under her. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | I would be riding her in the indoor arena as much as possible, not just on barrels but doing other things, warming her up along the rail, letting her see the indoor arena can be a fun and friendly place to be. Dont work her butt off ever time you use the indoor, let her relax. ") |
