Apparently, my dogs would like for me to build them their own room at the vet's office.  It seem like one is there all the time. I was considering getting insurance on two of them, but I would like opinions.  The problems have not been major, but it seems like it is a couple of hundred everytime he goes.  Thanks in advance.

I've never had it.  I do know a LOT of people that have and have heard more bad than good. (About different companies, they didn't all use the same ins. co.

My sister has it.  Her FIL pays for it because he's a vet and milks it for all he can get.

I didn't get it til my dog got older and I knew she would be racking up some vet bills - this is her plan, the premium is high because she is 14 years old.  I think it was $350 when I started the policy, when she was nine or so.  She got sick a couple years ago and she was in and out of 2 vet hospitals multiple times and at several vets.

I had it for a while, it was about $14 per month, only problem is I had to pay the first $250 of every incident, most are around that amount and probably for that reason... If you can get something with a low deducible might be worth it.... I feel your pain... we are always at the vet... Christmas night my little Terriers sliced his head clean open... 13 stables in his head! Of course it had to be 11:30 on Christmas! :( I've also had a dog get a blood transfusion from rat poisoning, one tear his back apart from a hitch on my truck (38 stitches!) and a dog almost kill my cat... another huge vet bill lol.... part of owning animals I suppose!

I have had PetWatch for my GSD for the past 8 years.  It's about $12 per month.  Never had to use it on her.  Before I got her I had two dogs who were poisoned.  They stayed at the vet for a week, but we couldn't save them and had to put them down.  The insurance paid quite a bit of money on them.  Vet bills and death "benefit".

I do and have for about 5 years I pay 35 a month and have a 50 deductible for the year it covers emergencies and routine care. I've used it numerous times without hassle. It now even covers luxating patellas. Its Vpi pet insurance I certainly recommend it for the accident prone pooch

I have Embrace. They paid for almost all of my doxie's $5,000 neck surgery.

Has the way they bill you changed? When I used to work at a vet's office (last office was in 2010) the CUSTOMER had to pay the fees upfront and submit all the paperwork for them to reimburse you. Is this still true or do they now just have you pay your co-payment like the human doctor's offices do?

(Regardless of whether this is still the case, I have seen people save THOUSANDS on their bills with the insurance.)

Yes I had to pay the vet bills and they reimbursed me 80 percent after the first $200.  They even pay 80 percent on her meds after the deductible.  I am one of those that saved 1000's of dollars and I was able to have every test run to figure out what was wrong with her.  She even had a brain scan!  She got sick on vacation so she went to the University of Illinois vet school and their bill was around 6K then came home and she went to Oregon State vet school for another 5 or 6k.  Plus a few vets in between.

Yes, I have it for all four of my dogs.  I have VPI (Veterinary Pet Insurance) and they covered the surgery for my dog's ACL tear, they paid 80% and reimbursement was quick and easy.  I'd recommend them.

 Was it because of IVDD?

I have pet insurance on one of my dogs and I couldn't be any happier with the company.

You get to pick your deductible (which you can change at any time). The price per month varies depending on breed and age.

For example... I have a 2 year old Boxer, with a $300 deductible, and I get charged $50 a month.

They pay for 90% of the bill. I haven't had any issues with them at all. You pay for your pet visit and they reimburse you after the deductible has been filled.

They do not pay for the exam fees and routine care, but so far everything else.

Thanks for all the responses.  One of my dogs seems to be a bit of a drama king and he has no tolerance for pain, I will look into these.
