I didnt read all what the others had to say, but i hope that you asked for extra money for the shipping cost's. And the smaller the box the cheaper it is to ship, I always use a really tight box to ship. And I get insurance and ship with USPS, they are cheaper. I think I always payed around 65 to ship, for some reason it costs me more to ship out of Texas.

I shipped a saddle from Ohio to colorado Springs a year ago, via UPS through the local hardware store for just under $50 with signature tracking.   Go to a mom and pop place that ships UPS, don't use the UPS store.  The buyer paid for the shipping.  as for paypal fees, if the sender says that the money is a gift and they pay from their bank account it won't have paypal fee's.  There were no paypal fee's taken out on either end of our deal.  if they pay by credit card, their are fee's but right off the bat I said buyer to pay any paypal fee's

OK I appreciate the advice on buyer paying shipping etc, but its not necessary. We haven't settled on a total price yet because I have a number I want to actually get for the saddle and I'm keeping paypal fees & shipping costs in mind when it comes to my bottom line. I really just wanted to know what the secret was to shipping a saddle for less than $50.

USPS is my only option here because I don't go anywhere with UPS pickup and the nearest UPS hub is a full hour away. That's not worth the drive.

A few months ago I shipped a nice used silver show saddle from Arkansas to Michigan. Wrapped it tightly in bubble wrap, then cut down a good cardboard box to box it tightly and taped it up..... shipped it UPS for $48 and that included $1500 of insurance. This was a western show saddle.... that weighed 38 pounds before all of the packaging. It took it three days to deliver.
