Once winter goes away
I hoping to get my boys to the vet for their usual spring stuff. Probably sometime in March.
My coming 8-year-old gelding has a catching stifle in his right hind that was diagnosed late last year. Since I was pretty much done competing for the year, I didn't do anything treatment-wise besides trying to keep him legged up. ... which ended in Nov/Dec with the terrible cold temps and the fact that hubby and I moved into a new house. Finally rode last weekend, for the first time in months, and I had a fireball on my hands!
Anyway, when I bring him in March, I decided I want to try injecting the stifle. I've talked to a few other people with similar issues and that worked well for their horses. My vet said she'll be using high molecule hyaluronic acid
(hyvisc
) with a small amount of triamcinilone. We'll inject him, and then see how he does. Inject him again when he needs it.
I've never done injections on a horse before, so this is all new stuff to me.
Any experiences or advice you can give me?
