This morning my mare aborted twins, one apparently hid very well on both ultrasounds. One wasnt fully developed, the other exaxtly what i asked for- sorrel with 4 white socks.

I'm willing to take in a foal if anyone needs it, I'm located in College Station. She's a maiden mare and a little confused at this moment.

I'm about to go have her flushed, but if anyone wants to PM or message me on Facebook, I'm willing to take a foal in.

March. A little less than 2 months. I live near the college, about a mile away.
I'm certainly going to milk her tonight and freeze it.

are your horses there with you where you live? I live in a 1BR apartment right now.

I have two mares due and I am always worried when it gets closer and closer to foaling time. I'm taking embryology right now and we talked a little bit about asymmetrical twinning, which is what happened here with your horse. IDK why one fetus doesn't develop and the other one does. I can ask some questions about it when I go back to class. That's crazy about it hiding on the ultrasounds, but it's very possible :(. the embryo on a mare really moves around before it implants, they think it's a mechanism for telling the uterus it's pregnant. Makes it tricky to check for twins sometimes :(.

I live on 3 acres attached to 47 acres with an 8 stall barn. I have 5 horses :)

The mare is a freak of nature. This really doesn't surprise me.

I'm so sorry for you loss. You could contact local vet clinics or even the university since it sounds near by and see if they need some themselves or know of anyone needing any.

Dr Varner or Sheila Teague over at the Lg Animal Hosp might know someone.

I've called A&M and Texas Equine and no one knows of orphan foals at this moment, probably too early into the season. She's under TEs care right now because a large section of the placenta was still latched on really well. Shes tough as nails and has gone through a lot over her lifetime, so prayers she stays strong like she has previously. The vet knows this mare quite well, so she's in good hands :)

Well with a little help of medicine Tawny finally passed the final big piece of the placenta and is now back home in her barn stall with her herd once again. Thanks for the prayers. This mare is tough and stubborn, she's been through a lot. Texas Equine definitely has the best staff :)

This. Last year my mare had a red bag delivery and I missed it. Foal died. We milked out a few ounces of colostrum, but didn't do it until later that day. I wish we'd milked her all day. It could save another foal's life.

I'm so sorry for your loss. :

Hi Stride, my name is Melanie Halbert.  A friend told me you had posted on here about your mare.
I am so sorry you lost your foals.  Been there, and it is never easy no matter what.
I will pm you to make sure you get this, I hope anyway.
Lost mare yesterday at Dr. Honnas'.  Not mine, TB farm east of Athens.  They called me wanting me to take the foal to raise, I did it last year for a client and just not up to it this year.  So, that said, I am looking for a nurse mare for them.  Do you think your mare will take another foal?  I will pm you as well.
Thank you so much, and again, I am so very sorry for the loss of your foal(s).  So hard on the heart and on the mare.
