What is it like there ? I have only gone there once for a rodeo, and I didn't get the chance to look around, so I am just wondering what the lifestyle is like, as far as weather, crime, city life and of course barrel races lol I will possibly be relocating there for work and school and was hoping someone else lived either there or around there and could help me get a feel for the place. Basically give me the details on the "Aggie Land " life lol

Thank you for any help and information.

I live outside of belton right now but i previously lived in College station for 2 years. Its a very "collegey" town. The weather is fairly nice- Usually in the 90's all summer and usually 50's-60's december/jan. Its south TX so the weather is definitely going to be on the warmer side. Lots of city life- tons of great restaurants, bars, of course theres football season in the fall. theres the STBRA (south tx barrel racing association) which holds quite a few local jackpots within an hour of college station, Diamonds and dirt barrel futurity of course in March and lots of CPRA/UPRA rodeos down within an hour-2hour drive all spring/summer. I really enjoyed living there. Theres always something going on. i dont know a lot about crime but id assume its about the same as most other small texas cities. Definitely not what i would consider a problematic place to live.

I moved here in 2005, graduated in 2010, and never left. Small town feel but with just about everything you could need within just a few minutes driving distance. Drive less than 10 minutes in any direction and you're out in the country. Cost of living is fairly low, however pay typically corresponds with that. Why pay well when you can pay a college kid minimum wage to do it? Being a college town there's plenty of night life if you want it. Summers are GREAT because all the students leave and there's no traffic or wait to do anything (if you can call what we have here traffic, anyone from a big city would laugh that I even call it that). Don't plan to do anything on Saturdays in the fall without having to wait. The volume of people that pack into this small area is insane, and I LOVE it. You have to go to a foot ball game. It is quite an experience. I never missed one for my first 7 years here.

I don't have any trouble finding jackpots less than an hour at least once a weekend, and usually can find one during the week that's not too far either. Lots of horse people. Lots of arenas around town you can use if you get to know the owners or pay a small fee. I don't have one at home, so there are 6 or 7 I use around town.

Weather is hot pretty much always. Don't have much of a winer with the exception of this year.

Crime I would say is good but that's because I've never had any issues. You hear about your typical stuff, but I wouldn't say it's a bad town at all. Just don't live off mlk in Bryan and you should be good!

It's a town that you either love or hate. Definitely different than anywhere else an some people just don't like it. If you take the time to get into the culture here and find the things that interest you other than barrel races I don't see how someone couldn't love it. Feel free to PM me and I will send you my number and would be happy to show you around or answer any more specific questions you might have!
