I'm curious about the Cavallo Boots. My mare is hard to shoe (I think it's just cause she don't like our farrier) Because I can pick up any hoof of hers I want to without a problem. But anyways, I was wondering what are the boots made out of? Do they work? And are they simple to use?

Thank you~ :)

They are horrible, every horse I put them on they rubbed the pastern raw in a 2 mile ride.

I use the old macs and I haven't lost one, no storing horses

They are made out of soft leather on the sides and hard plastic on the bottom. The Cavallos are one of the better boots out there in that price range IMO. They go on easy but are big and bulky and small rocks can get in them pretty easily. I tried them on and off for quite a while and just couldn't make myself like them. The Easyboot Gloves are the best boot in that price range as far as fit and slim fitting BUT they are HARD to get on when its cold. The Renegade Hoof Boots are in a TOTALLY different price range but are hands down the best boots on the market but you need to make sure you want to make the commitment to boot your horse before you buy them b/c they are $180 per pair! They are worth that price if you are committed to booting though!

I'm committed to buying some boots. I'm only going to be using them while I trail ride. Because sometimes here in North Carolina the terrain can get a little rocky. But I want to keep her barefoot while I'm barrel racing her. She stays a whole lot more sound in the long run when I don't use them.

I kinda meant "committed" to the extra work booting requires, not just buying them, lol. I was always trying to find excuses not to take the time to put them on, lazy I guess. And when I was using the Easyboot Gloves I had to trim my horses hooves twice as often to be able to make them fit. Make sure whatever you get you do a lot of riding around your house to get your horse used to them before you take off on a long trail ride.

Cavallo sells pastern wraps to prevent this. I never had a problem with them rubbing...I just thought they were too bulky and clunky.

Their pastern wraps don't cover properly, easy boot gators Have the best pastern wrap.

Easy boot glove works for me. My trimmer comes every 5 weeks. Boots were properly fitted by him. Easy on, easy off, no rubbing, and they stay put. Love mine!

They are junk compared to Old Macs.  I've only had those 2 brands so there may be something better than either. The Old Macs have held up well.  I use them on tender footed broodmares. I leave them on 24/7. No sore spots witht he Old Macs and they hold up well.

Well what does everyone think of Renegade boots? Because I've noticed these and they seem to be very good quality boots :)

Renegades are the best boots ever made in my opinion. They fit well, are not clunky, do not get rocks and sticks in them, and are super easy to get on and off.
