Wyoming Quarter Horse Association is having barrel racing AGAIN. Open, Amateur and Youth at a several of their shows this year. Please come out and show your support so they keep having them. Great way to earn an ROM and have a record for your horse. I'll be bringing 2-3 of my own youngsters just to show some support until I have one actually competitive, so it will be a point class. If you join the WQHA, and compete at the required number of shows, you will be eligible for year end awards. They also have Ranch Pleasure and some other classes that could be fun for you barrel horses. PLEASE come
First show is May 9, 10 & 11, 2014 - Woolly Horse Show Circuit - Douglas, WY

Yay! That's exciting I want to try and get my boy's ROM so I can get his appendix papers changed. Do these points count towards world qualification at all?

WYOracer - 2014-01-31 11:25 AM Yay! That's exciting I want to try and get my boy's ROM so I can get his appendix papers changed. Do these points count towards world qualification at all?
Yes they do!!! PLEAAAAASE come. I have gone to a few with my show horse last year and kind of got to be friendly with the president of the WQHA. He has a super nice hunter horse. He took me under his wing and has helped me with my showmanship/future hunter. I laughed and told him the reason I was SO terrible is I am a barrel racer at heart. I begged for them to have barrel racing added to the show bill again as I have 2-3 horses that I would haul to support it. He said he would and by gosh he brought it up at the last big meeting and all agreed
(just for me
). I feel so loved!!!!
And then the next month my barrel horse was diagnosed with a broken pelvis and is out for 2 years. I swear to support it so will bring my husbands ranch horse
(that is quite slow
) and a 5yr old that I have no plans to futurity and only has about 60 rides. Oh yes, we will be pathetic, but I am determined to get AQHA barrel racing going again in the area. I will only be a class filler, but hey, it is good experience and I will be there anyways with my show horse.
The state fair always has barrels
(usually about 3-4 people show up with 1-2 horses
). And the Torrington show had it last year and I expect will again, that place has a great great arena. Then if they have the first Douglas show with barrels and hopefully maybe the Rapid City one will, it shouldn't be hard to ROM. I have 6 points on my hurt horse just in 3 shows in 2 yrs. Some are in Am and some Open and a couple in Poles. I don't know if he will come back strong enough to finish his ROM. I may try and see and then retire him to ranch work.
Anyways, sorry to ramble. I would love to meet some BB's at the shows.
