| How quickly was everyone back riding after their c-section?
I don't mean making a rodeo run, but just getting on and walking around or walking the barrel pattern.
Does anyone have any advice for afterwards as far as getting ready to get back riding? |

Location: Idahome | I was back on just walking around 4 weeks after. I did use a step to get on though because I was too scared to stretch out too far. I started really riding about 8 weeks after. Once you feel you can, I would start working on getting your core strength back if you are wanting to ride. That part killed me because I had lost all of my core strength.
ETA: Everyone is different, so you have to only do what your body will allow.

| about 8-10 weeks after. Getting in and out of my truck was painful for awhile. When those pains went away I started riding again. |

Location: Cecil, Pa | When I searched this there were a ton that were right back at it... For me that did not happen... I think I got on 3 or 4 months later... my core has lost all strength and I am working hard to get it back... |

The Resident Destroyer of Liberal Logic
Location: PNW | I waited the doctor recommended 8 weeks, and then when I did - I rode our old tried and true ranch gelding.... NOT my fire breathing dragon.lol. Take it easy on yourself. Your horses will wait for you. You will be no use to your family or your horses if you are making your recovery harder than it needs to be. A C-section, while routine, is still MAJOR abdominal surgery.
I'm currently pregnant with my second and will have a repeat Cesarean and plan on waiting at least the 8 weeks again. Listen to your body, and don't push too hard too fast. Heal up momma. |

| Follow the Dr's orders. I was feeling good 3 weeks out and thought I was good to go- ended up ripping my incision open and it took 6 months to heal. Wasn't worth riding 2-4 weeks early. |

| I haven't recieved any dr's orders as of yet so that is why I was just looking for a time line.
Thanks! |

Location: Northern CO | I was about 4 weeks but I only rode my old gelding, had my sister throw my saddle up, made him get over to my stepping stump, and I took it really easy. lol. Kinda just a nice trail ride for the first few weeks and I didn't ride but every few days. My Dr. was okay with it but told me to really listen to my body and if it hurt even a little to slow things down again. My biggest problem was the sudden lack of core muscles. I felt like such a weenie and a little off balance the first two rides. Also be careful doing your chores. I was amazed at how heavy a bucket or a few flakes of hay felt. Lifting even extra light things in the beginning can really be felt across your in-cession so just be careful. |

Location: Oklahoma | I am different than everyone who answered. I was legging horses back up 2 weeks post surgery, and made a run 3 weeks later.
I did have a complete dr release before I started riding again. My core was very stong before pregnancy, but it took me a while before I stopped feeling like a monkey on my mare's back.. I was 100% after about 3 weeks worth of runs.
I have now had my stomach muscles cut open 3 times and it is starting to take a toll on my strength. I have to work 10x harder and always feel like I am on the verge of falling off when I get a little off balance. The more times your muscles are exposed to trama, the longer it takes to heal and the harder it si to regain the strength. |

Location: Missouri | I was bad and threw a leg over maybe 2 weeks post c-section. Only for a few minutes, gave me a really weird feeling, hard to describe. Not exactly real painful but definitely uncomfortable in a way. It was worth it though after not riding for 6 months lol |

Location: WA | My Dr told me to wait 6 weeks to ride. At 5 I was out walking around onthe old faithful. Took a couple rides on her then at 7 weeks I took my fire breathing dragon to a game show to take it easy. I should have known she wouldn't. My timing was off, but my incision was fine. Everyone is different though. Don't push it if it hurts or youhad special circumstances at all. |
