Does anyone know about these bits? I'd like to find out more about them my mare works great In a snaffle and I've heard they work great almost like a racing snaffle bit. Because this mare does NOT like shank bits or Tom-Thumbs and ONLY likes a simple O-Ring snaffle. And I've tried my Million-dollar bit on her and she likes the mouth piece and works great in it or just in a halter and lead rope so I was wondering about the Ring Gag bits and how they work and if they'd be good for my mare. She's also not super light mouthed and she's not hard mouthed either she somewhere in the middle.

Thank you~

My concern would be the gag action itself. I have a gelding that is fine with a snaffle for light work--it's not enough for a run--but HATES gag action as well as not liking shanks and will not work well in a shanked bit. He ended up in a custom made/modified locked snaffle, but I was able to put him in a Jr Cowhorse and get by for a while until I got his bit. I personally move from a snaffle to a locked snaffle to a jr cowhorse (if needed).

I tried one on my gelding and he hated it. I would say it depends on what you are trying to achieve. I've played around with about 30 types of bits and ended up with a lifesaver snaffel with copper rings on the lifesaver piece and a tie down. Do you know anyone with one you can borrow first?

I'd like to hear more about this too (so consider this a bump    ) as my mare does not like shanks either but can take a little gag. I run her in a snaffle (sometimes I use a different mouth depending on what I feel I need) currently and once in a while use a Jr. cowhorse. Your mare sounds very much like mine as far as bits and hard/soft mouthed part goes.  So, bumpity, bump, bump. :)

Well it's not that she won't take a shanked bit. It's just she won't move over from my leg cues and starts to shoulder or lean on turns even on wider circles. My snaffle bit keeps her upright and she doesn't lean into the turn she stays up right and moves GREAT off my leg. She is also a TB so she has a long stride and when she goes to running full out with a snaffle it will slow her down and then to a complete stop but I don't like pulling to hard on my mare even with a snaffle. She doesn't seem to mind and actually likes the gag action with the twisted wire with dog bone bits and she likes the rope over the nose (She turns a lot a better and isn't so stiff in her turns) But like I said, she wants to try to shoulder or lean into turns with a shanked bit, that's why I was curious about the Ring Gag Bit with the twisted wire and dog bone mouth piece.

I really like the second bit link I posted, I'm really considering getting that one. It doesn't have a big of a gag as the first and overall, I think it's a really nice bit.

I had that bit only the three ringed version and it will flip over when you run due to how it connects to the bridle. Drove me crazy. I like the first one better as it looks like it wouldn't flip over (I don't know if it would with just the one ring, but the three ring would no matter what ring I had it on)

Just a point I thought you needed to know.

~Update~ I finally bought one, but not for 60-80 bucks our local tack store had pretty much all her bits for 1/2 off! So the Ring Gag bit that was 40 I bought for 20! And my mare LOVES it! She takes to it like it was her O-Ring snaffle. And it really is a good bit
