How do you manage to bite your tongue? I know we discussing breeding on here quite frequently, and normally I'm very good about keeping my mouth shut when I encounter breeders who need, in no nicer term, smacked. :)

Here locally, there is a breeder that has a dun stallion. He's part cowbred, part western pleasure. There isn't anything great about him, other than they show him locally and with the buckskin assocation. They advertise that he's been to world, but it's the buckskin assocation and not on the larger scale of AQHA or APHA. I honestly don't think he could contend there.

They market him as an all arounder, and even advertise some of his babies as barrel horses. I'm not certain they could make barrel horses, because he does lean to the slow side.

Anyway. They are constantly preaching to people to be "educated breeders", etc. BUT, they breed a HYPP N/H mare. When confronted by others, they say it doesn't matter because she's never shown symptoms. Also, they breed solely for color. Not kidding, I see her advertising for broodmares of color and never asking for bloodlines. They don't give a squat what they cross their stallion on! They are perfectly okay just going out and producing mediocre horses.

My last issue with them, is the "trainer/owner" is probably near 300#, and riding small 18 month/2 yr olds, that are SMALL. :(

I see her posting constantly on groups I'm in and I'm having a very hard time keeping quiet. :/

HELP!

It's hard and there's a lot of uneducated breeding around here. We have a family "friend" that breeds his mare to the same stud every year...they are cow bred. They ship her to Kentucky to have her bred and bring her back and ship her back down to have it and then a couple months later they bring them back. What really bothers me is..this are has NEVER seen a vet. They don't do any appointments, checks, ultrasounds, nothing! A couple years ago she was pretty far along and they came out to find she has aborted twins....one was undeveloped and born dead but the other was alive for a little while. If I breed I want to do everything to make sure my mare is healthy and everything is fine. They also own the last 4 yrs of foals bc they can't them sold. They ask a fortune for an almost untouched youngin that isn't that well bred. Just bite your tongue and move along

Well, normally I'm chewing on something first.  Like food or the end of a pen...then all of a sudden....

We have other people around here that breed, that have had numerous sets of twins. They never know if anything took until it drops on the ground and have had a few sets of twins. They call the paper and make a big deal about it. LIKE ITS A GOOD THING!

It's easy for me to bite my tounge. I may not agree with someone elses breeding choices or how they manage, care for & train their horses. But as long as the horses are taken care of & not starving to death it's really not my business. I don't want other people telling me how I should breed & train my horses so I don't give my opinion on other people's programs unless they directly ask me.

There's a lot of people here who would rip me apart for how I run my broodies. I pasture breed them and do no vet work on them unless necessary. I also don't breed to the top name brand studs, I breed to stallions that I know personally, with very nice pedigree's, good conformation & known for producing trainable correctly built foals. I breed and train foals that I like & with a system that works for ME, it doesn't matter to me what other people think of my program or what they do with the horses they own as I'm not paying their bills.
