Location: Great NW | I have a 7 year old Border Collie. I noticed about a month ago a hard bump above his eye just to the side of the center of his head. over the month it has grown from nickle size to the size of a Quarter. I took him into the vet last week - conclusion it is either a bony growth (like a splint) covering a fracture from being kicked OR it is bone cancer. there are NO other bumps anywhere on him. When I took him into the vet last week he was eating normally - this weekend he starting acting like it hurt to eat so I mixed him some soft food. The Vet said that because of the location there is nothing he can do. For either diagnosis it is the same treatment- wait. Has anyone had any experience with this. |

| I don't know much, but if the spot is getting bigger, it's probably not good. If soft food is an option, I'd do that and see what happens. Sorry your baby is not feeling good. :( |

I did not request it cause I figured it would only show the size if the bump and that we can already measure.
His eye sight, balance and activity level have not changed -as yet. Just his eating. so keeping my figures crossed it is his skull healing from a kick he received working cattle. I will get some actuall canned food for him today. He gathers the cattle so he easily could have been kicked when he was way out away from us and we would never have known. He is a good dog - we send him to the far pasture by himself to bring the cows up. Once at the pens he leaves the work to the other dogs. the last time he gathered was in December when we brought them in to the feedlot for the winter. |

Location: ohio-in my own little world with pretty ponies :) | So shouldn't the vet be able to find out if it's one or the other? I would be demanding some answers. Sorry your baby isn't feeling well |

He sounds fantastic. Those dogs that can work the cattle themselves are worth their weight in gold. I had a Blue Heeler (Smokey) who was the bomb-diggity. I once was out riding in the big 108 acre field. I was on my good horse, who is also a former roping horse and had worked cattle a ton himself as well as I did sorting and team penning on him, and Smokey was there with us. There were 5 cows out in the field that shouldn't have been there; it was planted. I opened the gate on the far corner, and rode around to the far side of the cows and with my horse started pushing them towards gate, and Smokey took it from there. She moved them prob a quarter mile to the gate and out of the planted field. It was always that way. She knew what I wanted and just did it. Sadly I lost her in November at just shy of 15 years old. For a working girl, that is a heck of a long life. She was a good one....
I digress... I pray for your dog. I hope it is just from a kick, and it will go down. |
