Why do you do it? What makes it worth it to you?

Im not asking if I should or not, but after my last one passed away I swore never again would I own and ride a stud. I find I bond with them so much deeper, and it hurts so much more. But alas I've been looking and looking for a new horse and I've found a 4 year old stud.

Maybe I won't buy him, maybe I will and geld him, maybe ill give it one last try....

I know the work, the bad perception, I know no matter what issues was it will be my fault, im fine with all that. Really truly think I've built up a wall and not letting my self get too close to another horse, but I know that won't work with a stud ? does that sound crazy????

I just need go "talk it out" with somebody who has something more to say than im wasting my ability and I should get him.

I gelded mine when he turned 4 I didn't want the headache.

With you having soon to be 3 kids that will be even more responsibility when hauling.

I ride El Scorcho when I ride. I understand him and trust him completely. He takes care of me and knows who's riding him and what rate he should be for them. I let my little niece ride him and he drops down to her level of riding (which is inexperienced). I think the world of him.

Should you get a stud? Idk the answer to that. You are pregnant and are going to have a 3 little one's while you're trying to deal with a 4 year old stud. I'd probably hold off on a stud for now, but only you know the answer to your question.

I don't think its a silly idea at all but I think these ladies do have a point with little ones and a 4 yr old stud.  I bought a 10 yr old stud a few years back.  I didn't need a stud, I wasn't looking for one, I wasn't even looking for a barrel horse but this guy came up for sale and I fell in love with a beautiful animal that had a personality and manners that would knock your socks off.  He was 10 though and had already learned manners where you'll be teaching them to a 4 yr old.  My kids rode and showed our stud and they weren't very old plus I ran barrels on him.  I did end up gelding him a few years after I bought him only because I always felt like I should breed something to him and horses accumulate that way...duh.  Plus I had to keep him seperate from everything for part of the year so it was a hassle.   Now it doesn't matter if I put him with mares, geldings or both he's a true gentleman.  OMGosh that was a long story and I have no idea why I told you all that. LOL
