That is true. You can be non symptomatic with Norovirus and "shed" the virus unknowingly and get others sick.

Even those that have been sick and appear to be over the virus, can shed the virus for 2 weeks after they feel well.

It only takes about 18 virus particles to become ill with Norovirus.

If you are well on Monday, you should go. Continue to practice your good hygiene and enjoy your trip.

FirstFirewater - 2014-02-27 5:36 PM  Long story short my mom has the stomach flu or norovirus per her dr. but was not "tested" Since monday she's had symptoms and I live with her and have yet to get sick- as I'm aware 24-48hrs is the incubation time.

I am to leave for FL on Mon. with non refunable tix traveling with my prego best friend- My drs office thinks its fine as I show no symptoms and have been keeping good hygiene.

Her dr.'s office told her its a horrible idea and the virus particles are shed 2 weeks after and I could have it although I'm not having any symptoms. My issue here is I will be losing out on $400 worth of tix for something I Do Not have  please help me I'm literally in tears and fighting with my germophobe best friend. I understand shes 34 weeks prego and concerned but I'm not sure its quite as deadly as shes thinking?
With the norovirus, I would like to see the research her doctor is referring to, as a nurse one must only be 48 hours symptom free before returning to work

This information that the OP stated is straight from the CDC.

~~Norovirus can be found in your stool (feces) even before you start feeling sick. The virus can stay in your stool for 2 weeks or more after you feel better.

You are most contagious
•when you are sick with norovirus illness, and
•during the first 3 days after you recover from norovirus illness.

I think you are reading MUCH more into the information by the CDC...........the virus can be shed through YOUR STOOL up to 2 weeks....If a person practices good hygiene, they would NOT spread it that long......See the link above.......

docschic - 2014-02-28 1:41 PM I would start distancing myself from said "friend" because you know she really doesn't care about your thoughts or feelings.  Sorry she sounds spoiled and selfish in my mind.

I would agree with the above.

Sorry you canceled your ticket.  If it had been me I wouldn't have done it and would have just booked myself into a hotel for the trip.

I fly a few times a year and get sick every single time with a nasty sinus infection.  I haven't quite figured out how to avoid it.  I would love to be able to fly and wear a surgical mask to try to keep from getting sick but I'm afraid it would freak out the other people.

Your friend is taking a huge chance just getting on the plane, there is no telling what health issues the other passengers are dealing with.
