Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR		 Look at it this way, familiarity with technology is a requirement anymore.  Giving them something of their own to practice on, mess up, and fix is going to help them in their future lives as long as you make good use of parental controls. My son has an iPod touch and I love that I can lock him off the Internet and out of his apps but he can still listen to his music.  We do a strict 1 hour a day unless we're on a road trip. Btw, he's a HUGE reader but he won't read on an ereader, he has to have a real book. I tried to get him to read on our kindle to save money, but he hates it.
