Location: Texas | I have a new foal that I need to register. The sire is an AQHA registered sire and the dam is a non-characteristic Appaloosa. The mare has ApHC papers. Can I register this foal with the AQHA? Or only the ApHC? Or both? Really would appreciate someone walking me through this. Thank you! |

Location: ND | You will not be able to register with AQHA. And I'm honestly not sure if you will be able to get ApHC papers if the mare is non-characteristic. I could be wrong but I thought n-c mares had to be bred to a colored Appi to get papers. |

Location: Peg-Leg Julia Grimm | I don't know a lot about apps but I know you can't register anything that doesn't have AQHA or TB papers in the AQHA.
The little bit that I picked by reading people talking about ApHC I think you might not be able to register there either. I think the appy has to be charactistic in order to register and mating between a non-appy and a registered appy.
I hope someone comes on and answers that question for you. I'm pretty sure Rockinas knows a lot more than I do about ApHC and what they require. She had an appy stallion for a while. |

If she has regular papers you shouldn't have any problems getting ApHC papers on the foal. |

Location: mi | If she has regular ApHC papers the foal is an ApHC. FYI I am pretty sure pictures are required on this post. :)
If you are the mare owner and this is a new foal the stallion owner should be sending you a registration certificate that you will finish filling out and send it along with pictures to the ApHC. If you purchased the foal from the mare owner then they should of given you said certificate along with the foal.
And finally the ApHC is always great to answer questions I would suggest a call to them monday and I am sure they will get you headed in the right direction.

I told you wrong. The dam was regular App papers. Does that help me any? That changes everything. If the mare has regular ApHC papers you can still register ApHC. But the AQHA stallion has to be listed as an approved outcross stallion with ApHC. Did you get a pre-printed registration application with the horse? If you did, I would assume that the stallion has his paperwork in the ApHC office. If not, you may want to check on that. You have to take pictures of the foal to send in the registration. They are picky about the pictures, too. If the foal has any App characteristics you have to take close up pictures of them and send in with the registration app. Such as mottled skin, striped hooves, sclera, spots, ect.

Location: Bigfoot Country | If worse comes to worse, you can register the foal with the HalfQuarterHorseRegistry.com As long as ONE of the parents has AQHA papers, they will register it for you. At least you would have something to identify the foal, and pedigree, with date of birth. |
