| mare with left hind suspensory pain on lameness exam. Rest & poultice for 2 weeks and recheck. Any supplement advice? I'm ordering THE NutraWound tonight. I gave her 10 pills of the human form tonight with her feed. I don't have any horse stuff yet.

Location: In the Hills of Texas | I would just give the THE NutraWound. You need to be careful doubling up on different products. |

Location: N Texas | Back On Track quick wraps are awesome! I used SmartTendon for a while, but think the wraps were more beneficial. I wouldn't get any since you're getting nutrawound. |

Location: Benton City, WA | If this diagnosis (suspensory pain) is correct, it will take a lot more than 2 weeks to heal, no matter what you put on it or feed... No ultrasound done? |

| I think you should get an ultrasound done. My mare strained her suspensory, didn't tear it or anything, and she was called to be out for at least 8-9 months. This had to do with the location of the strain (insertion point), but still. Suspensories don't heal fast! |

| Agree with ultasound. I had Numerous trips to the vet to find reason why not working left barrel til he came out of a run 3 legged lame with torn suspensory. Out a year to heal. Vet said that probably what had been bothering him and is progressive injury til it tears. I would give lots of time off and use runners relief as a poultice . |

Location: 31 lengths farms | My gelding has the same thing but on a front leg, took 3 months of rest, cold hosing and magnet boots then got to start hand walking. He came back nicely and hasn't had an issue since (knock on wood) in 7 years but I also never run him if he isn't legged up properly no matter the size of pen or the amount of money up. He has run 2x at Pendleton with no issue, I cold hose and poultice after each ride and magnet boots before hand as well as after the poultice comes off.
edited to add we ultrasounded him to find a dark spot on the suspensory, no tear YET, just the dark area. He had taken a few weird steps that were very unlike him and had tripped a little at a cutting coming out of a hard turn back which is unheard of with this horse. I just felt something wasn't quite right. He swelled up slightly on it after a barrel race and took him in and found it.

Location: You never know where I will show up...... | Did you get an ultrasound done to find out why there is pain? The horse I futuritied last year had tore her RH suspensory the end of October per ultrasound exam. She wasn't getting any better so I took her for another ultrasound 2 weeks ago. My usual lameness vet found a lot of scar tissue around where the lesion was at. He figured that was making her so sore. Took her to a surgeon just last week for a 2nd opinion. His ultrasound revealed that my mare's suspensory was so badly damaged (likely from an old injury before I even bought her) that it is degenerating. So I guess she is retired now. Can't take a chance on her breaking down during a run. I'd darn sure be trying to figure out what is causing her soreness because it could be something fairly serious. |
