Rugged Lark Bloodline Questions

I just recently purchased a gelding that is a grandson to Rugged Lark. He is also appendix and is 16.1hh which is by far the tallest horse I have ever owned. He is 5 years old and is loping a pattern. He was originally used as a buggy horse but had such a long stride he was clipping the cart. He was then put into barrel training. Reg name is Will He Escape-Some direct names on his papers Invitation Only, Rugged Lark, Escapist, Watrals Klee. My questions are:
Anyone have any luck with his lines and making competitors?
How are they to train? Do they tend to get hot easy? How are their minds?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
He seems very laid back and easy going but I have not tried him out yet so I am just curious what other people have experienced.
Thank you!

Lol what you've got there is a pleasure horse drop out. I've got one - he is the most honest 3-D horse I've ever been on. He wasn't BUILT to be a 1D horse, but gosh he's got heart and will usually pull a check in the 3D every time, running low 18.0-18.3s on a standard 99% of the time. I ended up with him because his previous owner was scared of him because she let him act like a total prick ALL THE TIME. But now he is my total love bug and I adore him. He is my forever guy and will never leave.
The only two names I recognize off your papers or Rugged Lark. Obviously.
Invitation Only is a pleasure horse 100% and his babies are super popular still with WP people.
Your guy is much bigger than mine, mine is short and stocky as hew as halter/WP bred - so maybe he might hit some lower times with that bigger stride. Good luck! I don't get to hear of many western pleasure drop outs turned barrel horse!

He has a huge stride so I figure he might end up having some speed. I am not expecting a 1D competitor thank goodness after your post. LOL I mainly bought him t use as a back up and a hauling buddy for my other gelding. I got him at a steal so I figured there is no harm done if he is just a pleasure horse.

I knew a few people who evented on them
(obsessed with the rugged lark bloodline.
) I have never seen one in the barrel pen but I know theirs were super easy to train and very honest.
The one is a 50k jumper now and anyone can hop on him. The owner has a few young ones and shes let the kids
(8-10 year old
) jump him. He's got a lot of character. We had a horse take off bronc style out of round pen, donkey honking. He got so scared he jumped out of his run that was 10ft high!!! He didnt even have a running start! He was only 3 at the time but we knew he would make a jumper.
I think they can be a tad lazy but have great minds and as honest as the day is long. Hes really weird though about being shawed on his hind end
(vet checked clear
) but just not a fan. So they have quirks. Hes kinda a duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh kinda horse.
The other few I knew were the same one but I knew him the best.
