They really do instinctively point. When we got Gus the breeder told us to really work on commands and that he would "teach himself" on birds. I kind of scoffed at that but she was not wrong. First time out he was a bit of a yahoo, but the 2nd trip out - the swtich was flipped - automatic and he has been a machine ever since. We have done our own "training" and learned a lot so hopefully this new pup will be even better. As I told TXBO - I'll probably bore you with hunting updates this fall. :
)

You're so right about the instincts. I don't break a dog until they are at least a year old. The first year I like to get them in birds and figure it out themselves. I like a bold dog.
