I took on a kid at about 11 years old. He stayed with the job till he was almost out of vet school. He's been practicing for about a year and a half now. I really miss him. By the time he was 14, he could anything, and everything on the farm. He had a couple of buddies he could call for getting up hay, and construction projects. He was worth his weight in gold.

Before my dad retired it was up to my mom and I to do all the feeding for the calves around our house. As soon as I got home from school she would say "go change your clothes, gate girl, we have calves to feed!"She's gonna be a great kid!!!

This is kinda off topic, but hear me out (or read me out).....

I was browsing Craigslist the other day and saw and ad that was for leasing out a horse. It said something to the effect of, trying to get my horse legged up. She needs lots of slow work, long trail rides, building up to lots of long trotting and sprints. They would like to lease said mare out for $200 a month, and would like her to be ridden 3 days a week, minimum.

Then I saw another ad, someone offering their riding services. Looking for horses who need legged up or exercized on a regular basis. Available 3-5 days a week.  $10-15 an hour depending on the the horse and what they needed.

I found it comical that someone wants someone to lease their horse to someone who will get it it shape. And another that wants to be paid to do it. Oh the Irony.

I know it doesn't help you but I have those type of kids that really work. My son had his first full time summer job on a hay farm at 12 and is still working there. My daughter does her own tack cleaning business and animal care. They are 15 & 16. Both can run a tractor and handle all kinds of critters. My son does all the mechanic work on all our stuff and for others. I'm going to be so sad when they move away. I'm going to have to pay to have my stuff done lol
