Location: Red Raiderland | Well, we had to make the decision to euthanize one of our dogs today. I know it was the right thing but I have never had to euthanize a completely healthy dog before and it's painful. Chicken was dumped at our place several years ago with his brother and we decided to keep them but over the years they would find their way out of the very secure yard and off they would go. While we were able to keep Chicken's brother, Murphy, in and our old Basset/Corgi mix, Henry, there was no way to contain Chicken unless we put him in a covered kennel which I just couldn't do. We moved to our new house last week and it was evident that he was going to terrorize the areas wildlife and the nearby neighbor's livestock or ours for that matter. We tried to put him in the barn to figure out something but he scaled the 10 foot high stall and that was that. We will really miss that boy because he was so sweet to us and so happy but it just wasn't meant to be. I'm sorry Chicky, we will really miss you.

Location: Red Raiderland | Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the support and for anyone else that has had to do this, dang I am so sorry. I just keep thinking of how he used to be the first one to meet me at the gate when I would come home to the old house. Ugh, I am just heart broken. |

Location: Red Raiderland | My heart goes out to those that have faced the same senario. The other boys have not strayed anywhere since Chicken was here to lead them off so I am very happy about that. It doesn't seem as though Murphy misses Chicken like I was worried he would. They are both laying in the sun right next to the barn as I type this. Henry keeps Murphy in great company and vice versa. |
