I am planning to look at a horse trailer tomorrow morning. If I like it and want it I can't pick it up until Wednesday. I do not know the sellers. What is a fair deposit to leave on a trailer that's $4000-$5000? Leave it in check or cash? This is all if the seller agrees to Wed pick up. Thanks for advice!

If you really like it give maybe 200 for deposit... tell them thats all you have in cash on you.    Do a thorough inspection before you decide, if you know of a trailer person that fixes trailer- take him.  Or in doubt give a deposit and take it to someone to look over.   I bought a used trailer years ago did the look thru myself.. should have taken it to a trailer repair person.  There were all kind of things I had to have replaced or repaired after I paid and took it home, llike one of the axle and underneath the toilet, some pipes leaked. The owner was a shark - hid a bunch of stuff I couldn't see or tell that was broken or in need of serious fixing.

Another idea is to take a tailer lock and after you agree on deposit and Wed pick-up, put the lock on it so the owner can't then sell out from under you or use before you pick it up.
