Gathering cows I use Mohair, running barrels I use the Air Flex. I have a wool lined one for my other mare for gathering doesn'n't seem to do well in the Mohair cinches.

I use fleece. My horse is a spoiled punk who does not like mohair. Neoprene sored him up.

I use fleece and shearling.  Hated neoprene, my horses hated it worse, tried mohair string cinches and they are OK but just not what the shearling is IMO.

Love Mohair cinches!! You couldn't give me a neoprene to use. Literally, I've won a few of them and they just hang in my tack room.

Thanks for your responses. I always used mohair, but have been out of the loop for awhile, and wanted to hear what (and why) people liked these days.

In my work as a massage therapist, almost all the horses that are sore in the girth area wear neoprene. If you're going to use it, replace it when it shows wear and keep it clean.

We use both. I really like the mohair but what I like about the neoprene is that when we are done for the day we rip off the bottom of the cinch and hose it off. Like someone said they have to be kept clean!! And we only use the "roping style" cinch where it gets big in the middle. And good quality not auction barn crap. I really really want to try an alpaca cinch. I bet those have to feel fantastic. I have the alpacas who wants to make me a cinch?? :)

I have used both in the past as well.  Mohair seems to slip a little but the neoprene doesnt, I just dont like using it much in the hot texas summers.  I have recently been using Clinton Anderson cinch.  I think he calls it jersey nylon from the recommendation of a friend and I REALLY like that one best

Some thing to think about, You try not to leave your Neoprene boots on for to long because they can trap heat in the leg. Why would you want a Neoprene Chinch against your horse? Neoprene is one of the worse things that you can have against the muscles, Trap the heat and pinch the muscles.

Thank you for posting. I have been wondering the same thing. I have been using neoprene and the piece of nylon reinforcing the hooks underneath seems REALLY stiff. And I think its soring my geling a little.

What Mohair do you all use? Recommendations?!

Classic Equine.  I like their roper style because it's not overly wide but distributes the pressure. With all cinches you want to make sure that they are equal on both sides and are centered on the breast bone to prevent soreness.
