Just looking for info on her style, pros and cons, etc of her clinics.  There is one I could go to and my newer horse could use the exposure.  But if it wouldn't be helpful for a hot OTTB, I don't want to waste our time and money.  It is about a 6 hour drive across the state for the barrel, pole and horsemanship clinic.  We don't run much poles but I love them, so no big deal having those too.

From the people that went to a clinic of hers locally here...I wouldn't waste the time or money going. I guess she was rather rude to quite of few of the ladies, and really didn't have a clue as to what she was talking about. And that is coming from a lot of the locals that went with horses and to audit.

We hosted one here. She was far from rude!  Very nice and very positive!  She showed the beginners some good drills and some important basics such as where to be and why.   The more advanced ones she was more in depth with.   2 ladies that were here run top of 2d with one and top of 1d with their other horses.  They said she gave them some good insight.

I went to a kk clinic held in grosesbeck tx. it was two days and I had a great time and learned something too. Kelly is very smart, and very positive. I enjoyed the clinic and suggest everyone should try one. it was great for special bonding time with my young mare too. just me and her all weekend... really bonded us.. And I am not a clinic type person, train my own horses and do very well with them for myself and my daughter.. I really have never seen Kelly be rude either.....

My daughter and I went to a clinic a couple of years ago and we loved it. Kelly really broke down some of the fundamentals on horses that needed some "Special Time" (my daughters horse). The horsemanship portion was a benefit and we now use some of the drills today. We saw improvements on the things we wanted to work on and the rest was a plus!
The clinic was a positive! Ready for another!!

I have helped organized 5 clinics for Kelly kaminski, in SD and in Australia. I can say that she was professional compassionate and a good clinician. She helps everyone in the clinic and their issues with their horses. It is usually an attitude of a rider that disabled their ability to learn. I have organized many clinics for a variety of people including Sharon Camarillo, bogie Webb, Cindy Baltezore, Judy and Rachel myllymaki. All of these people are teachers, they have not only their barrel racing experience behind them but their ability to teach. Kelly is an ideal role model for every little girl who wants to be a barrel racer. She is well presented and well spoken. People who may find her rude are those who try and take up the clinic with "I am this and I am that" and try and dominate the attention..... Being a teacher she knows how to make sure no one misses out. She has training tools I had not seen form all the others.

We train horses on a huge ranch....naturally our training is different. But I go to clinics with the end result in mind. People like Kelly will tell you where they came from to get where they did. That is her story and she is the only one to tell it. Just as it is those who have been to the clinics....but it is not for those who have not been to a clinic to voice about it.....if you have not been you don't know, taking opinions from people who have not acuturally had their legs astride each side of the horse and done the clinic is not a realistic view of what a clinic is about.

Thus to the question is it worth it for the hot off the track thoroughbred horse ....if you are a rider wanting to get your horse out there and work on hi then this clinic is for you as the slow work and understanding from the clinician then you will have it. In Australia many horses are TB.s and there were some great results. On in particular would not walk in the arena and then would come lunging in over anyone....after the two days clinic the horse walked in like it was in pleasure class....and listen to the rider......the girl is still winning in that horse and entering the arena in the same way..... I guess proof is in the pudding and only the baker (you being the rider) can achieve this with the right help.

I have never been to a clinic of Kelly's but I ride with her a lot. We have a group that gets together to just trail ride and I see her at barrel races.  I have never seen her be rude to anyone.  I was stalled next to her at a big race and I can't tell you how many times moms with young girls would come ask for an autograph and picture, she was patient and gracious everytime.  She has trained some great horses that her daughter Kenna is doing great on in high school rodeo.

Thanks everyone and look forward to reading more.  I have slow worked this horse to death and we are finally not looking like a crazy TB. The issue I need some guidance with is adding some speed.  She can trot a barrel pattern like a pro and can slow lope poles.  But we need to add speed without frying her.

I have ridden in and also hosted several Clinics with Kelly. She helped me really get with our stud in the beginning and taking a young horse up the ranks was very helpful as well. Her style isn't complicated which makes it easy. She's always taking people to the next level. I have watched numerous people excel with their horses after her clinics. Her experience both as a teacher and a competitor really helps one as a student. She's trained several off the track horses who are competing today. Her daughter is currently running extremely competitively on a horse they raised and trained. I will be there again this year and drive from the Westside. I won't go to any other clinics as her style fits with mine. I don't want to complicate my training. There is a reason she goes to Australia and New Zealand and it's not because she doesn't know what she's talking about.

"I won't go to any other clinics as her style fits with mine."

And that is one of my concerns. I love Ed Wright. I get along with him, I like his style although a lot of people may not. But I saw this clinic (that I presume you posted islandhorses) and the cost was a lot less than Ed's clinics. And it is sooner. However, the cost of hauling over is going to make up the difference so cost is kind of a wash at this point. I am debating putting that chunk of money towards lessons or the clinic. I like that the clinic would let me see how she hauls and stays away from home. I also worry about the weather. My mare needs some runs, we can't trot forever. Unless Melody Riders is covered now, one or two good E WA downpours are going to keep anyone from running, at least for a chunk of the day. When it is only a 1.5 day clinic, that could be a good chunk of time. I am in no way questioning her experience or intelligence. I have, however, rode with another clinician who I would not go back to for any reason and it was one that many on here claim to be rude to riders (and she most certainly was). I went to that clinic so ready to learn and hear new ideas that it was ridiculous, my enthusiasm could have made up for everyone else. I was young. I had no pre-conceived notion other than I was going to learn so much! This was a long time ago, but that clinician made it very clear who was going to learn the most and it wasn't the little 5D horse sitting in front of her. I was disappointed and don't want to waste time or money to experience that again.

I am just trying to weigh my personal pros and cons with the experience of those who have been there. I am not a bad rider. I just got a bad start on this mare and need a little butt kicking. Yes, I said we need runs and we are trotting now. I am not a new rider or barrel racer and the mare can do more, I just need someone to push me to do it. The mare I run now is a total push horse and the TB is a total free runner. I need some tough love to let her run and do her thing. I also don't want her bitted up heavy. She doesn't need it. She is working awesome in a Tender Touch and German Martingale and while I don't mind suggestions for the future, I don't want something else shoved down my throat or made to ride in something else that weekend.

It seems as though for what I need done with this mare, the one day barrels only clinic would be better.  But that is a long drive for one day, lol.

I have attended two of Kelly's Clinics over the past couple of years. From the moment I met her she was by far to be most kindess clinication I have ever met. My first clinic my mother who was in her 70's at the time and not a very good rider went with me, she wanted to barrel race. My mother had attended 3 other clinics with another clinication and received absolutly NO Help... Kelly took my mom aside and talked to her quietly and gave her the confidence to continue in the clinic without feeling stupid my mom went on to ride and race with the oldtimers (locally) for about 3 more years. I had a horse that was green and Kelly took her time w/me and all the other girls we spent as much time as we wanted. My second clinic was last year--I had an extremely "high" judge cash mare. Kelly and I had been intouch prior about her. During the clinic we did everything we could to get me and her together Kelly also did the same with EVERYONE else!! She was nice and Kind. I got alot of help and emotional support from her on a decision I had to make. If my young horse was ready in May I would be attending her clinic because I like her style, slow, calm, quiet and she makes me feel like I can do this. I will definately either throw a clinic next year or attend one. Kelly Kaminiski Rocks!!

Good to know!  Does she work your butt off though?  I don't need my hand held as much as yelled at (but not rudely, lol)?

I always need my butt worked off and yelled at too. Personally I like Connie Combs and I've ridden with her for years but I'm sure Kelly would be an excellent clinician. There are a lot of people that are talking highly of her.

I had been planning on spending some money on lessons (but the gal I occasionally go to is an hour and a half away, but she is awesome), but then saw this clinic coming up.  I have a goal of running this mare starting beginning of July, so I have some time but need to get on it.

I took my daughter to one of Kelly's clinics in Groesbeck and it was wonderful. Not only did she work on barrel skills, but she also worked on horsemanship. I train alot of horses, and to me, if you do not have horsemanship you will never get the barrels. She was very thorough at explaining everything. She is very professional. She is not going to baby you. You will have to work, but she is far, far from rude. She works well with all people; adults, teenagers, and kids. Kelly is a kind-hearted person and loves to help. Some girls stayed after a Little Britches rodeo one Saturday to practice poles and Kelly was there and gave them pointers just from sheer generosity. If I ever save up enough money I would definitely take my daughter to another one!!!! I recommend that you go!!!!!!
