Yes it is. And to top it off the bay mare i am on is my best horse, Missroselee. She was retired last year because of very early stages of navicular (soft tissue right pain right now). I wanted to retire her sound. July of last year was the last time I was on her. We recently took her shoes off because nothing seemed to really make a difference for her and yesterday, barefoot, she felt sounder then she had in two years! Doesn't change anything. I will probably never run her again. She's going next month to be bred to Lions Share of Fame. But at least I can feel good knowing she's still sound enough to at least trail ride etc.

What a wonderul feeling!!!  I'm so happy for you and to be on your old friend makes it extra special.  I have one of those old friends too that I made the same decision with.  Retire her before the navicular gets too bad.  She's due in the next couple weeks with a Stoli My Heart baby but I sure do like your stallion choice.  He's a mighty fine animal.  Every once in a while I like to jump on my Baby too and go for a spin.  It makes them feel useful and happy IMO.

I even cruised her through the pattern with the training bosal on (I ride her in stuff like that when I can because if you put anything else on her it's like hitting the nitrous oxide button). She LOVED it.  I told my husband getting on her would be a mistake because all I want to do is run her again, but she was so sound yesterday it assured me I made the right decision to retire her.

And yes, I'm very very excited to see the cross with King.  Firewaterontherocks would have been my first choice but she's a short mare with a super short stride so she needed something big and long strided.  And King definitely stamps all his babies with a stride!

So very true!!! Getting on those special horses helps heal us and makes them feel needed. I retired one simply because she is 22, slowing down and I have others. I take her on the trails and she loves getting out. She will follow the trailer down the fence line when I head down the drive.

This mare will only be 13 this year.  She is sound.  She just started clobbering barrels two years ago and nothing worked.  No training techniques, no changes, nothing.  So we just kept at it with vetting her.  I can't even tell you how many sets of xrays, how many exams, etc etc etc.  It took a little over a year and three different sets of xrays to show cartilage changes on the bottom of her right navicular bone (that leg is crooked because of my lack of knowledge in my younger years and poor farrier work).  She was not officailly diagnosed because there were no changes to the actual bone.  The best way to get that official diagnoses is an MRI.  But with or without the MRI, our treatment plan would have been the same since I had other horses to ride (retirement) so I opted to just retire her.  Vet is confident that her issues at that point were soft tissue pain from the rough changes agitating the tendon/ligament.  And of course there's no cure for it :(

I am so glad you and your special mare had a great day. If you are sore it was so worth it! She sure is pretty. Nice choice for a stud. And now..........the wait begins. Even though she hasn't been bred yet.

That's awesome! I've had mono all winter and then tore my ACL and meniscus jumping out of the bed of the tuck while loading hay and slipping on stupid ice. So I am going CRAZY! I've got another month or so before I can get back in the saddle.

Very old school no big names.  Skipper W and some lines similar to the Hickory/Doc Bar.  Her sire, herself, and three siblings, two of which I owned, were all 1D horses.

And the trouble maker Frankenstein.  A friend helped me keep him somewhat legged up though he's far from being as fit as he should be.

I went to a race today, loped the baby quite a bit, and Frankie came through for me and ended up 5th in the 1D again :)

Congrats - That is so exciting!! The thrill of stepping back on an old friend, even if its only been a few weeks for you (not her) is AWESOME!! It's good to hear that you are doing better!!

No ma'am.  With everything that has happened the last several months I opted to skip all the big races for a while until things got back to normal.  So no Bonus race finals or BBR finals for me this year.  I debated it for a long time but am glad I am not going.  More relaxing not having to worry about big races too soon!!
