Are you talking about  reverse shoulder replacement?  If so make sure all other options have been explored and tried   And yes you need to be afraid of it   Very tough surgery and limited lifetime usage after    Hugs

yes I do think that is what it is. He has had 9 surguries on it and it is in such bad shape that they are offering this surgury. Off work for 4 months.

No lifting nothing basically other than range of motion with it for rest of life   I pray his work doesn't require physical stuff with this shoulder   If all else has failed   Then you need to make sure you have an excellent surgeon and rehab facility   Hugs and prayers to both of you

My husband had a total shoulder replacement June 2013,  he is doing just fine with it.  Had to stay in the hospital overnite.
At times I think the therapy was worse than the surgery itself.

The man that owns the company I work for just had a complete shoulder replacement two weeks ago.  So far he's doing well and going to PT three times a week I think, but he's already in less pain than he was before.  Good luck to your hubby and I hope the surgery goes well and the recovery is as pain free as possible.  With any type of surgery, the PT is the most important part in my opinion.

I have a partial shoulder replacement- I had a cortisone shot 10 years ago that gave me a massive staph infection and destroyed the joint, so my surgery was called a "salvage procedure."  They suspected in about 15 years I'd need a total shoulder replacement then perhaps a reverse shoulder.  It was described to me that that is the common progression of these surgeries- the reverse shoulder replacement is used only when the traiditional total shoulder won't work, and they have had great sucess with it.  Tell your hubby not to worry- I got mine done young- at 34, and although it hurt like holy heck and then hurt off and on for a year later, I am so glad I did it.  I know alot of people with shoulder replacements who are very active and you'd never know they had the procedure.  Like SG said, there will obviously be some limitations- but at 45 years young with what I have- the only thing I feel I can't do is a cartwheel- and I guess I've outgrown wanting to do them anyway so it doesn't much matter- Good Luck to you and hubby!  Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way!!
