I noticed the other truck post and as I am also truck hunting was wondering your opinions on a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 4x4 4.8L V8. Extended Cab.

I just have a small two horse but was also wondering about putting a camper on the back of the truck - dream lol.

It has around 93000 miles on it.

If you find something with the 6.0 in it they are indestructable.  You might have to go up to a 3/4 ton to get that motor though.

I'd say okay for hauling your trailer only if it's a small two horse but to add a camper on?  I'd want at least a 3/4 ton.  I would think that half ton extended cab V8 would be a gas guzzling pig as well and 98k is a lot on an '05 gas engine (depending on what it was used for).

We have bought Chevy cars and trucks for over 40 years and have never done anything but maintenance on them. Until i bought my 2005 1500 Z71 pickup. Altho it was a 4x4 I only drove it back and forth to work. When it had less than 40,000 miles on it the transfer case and transmission went out. Extended warranty would only repair it and it lasted 6 weeks and tranny went out again. They replaced that one. When it was 3.5 years old with 90,000 miles on it, a piston started knocking. Extended warranty fixed it and we traded it off before the rest of the pistons started knocking.

Had one. The 4.8L engine is too small and the towing pkg. isn't good enough. And I was only pulling a bumper pull 2 horse slant.

The smaller engine has to work harder than the 5.3 or a 6.0 which means worse MPG..even when driving empty.

It makes a nice, comfortable car. Plus, you can put mulch from the garden store in the back. 1500 is too small if you want to pull much of anything, tho.
