For those of you who have had the problem, besides tire wear were there any other things that warned you something was wrong? I have a 2012 2500. Does it matter where the trucks were manufactured...like one plant somewhere? I read where the parts probably wouldn't be available to late this year?
Our tie rod problems were noticeable with a few things ... The front tires will wear odd, the steering will get loose, at higher speeds the truck may wobble on the road - I'll ask the SO later for more symptoms. |

What? There's a problem with a Dodge? No WAY!!!! Β I thought they were perfect.Β I know somebody who was driving their brand new 2013 Dodge down the road and their tie rod broke. They are so lucky they weren't going any faster.Β
My MIL had an '06 Dodge that needed two new entire front ends before it hit 100,000 miles.
LOL. Right?? Our's needed two new front ends before 100,000 miles too.
Does anyone remember the transmission issues from the 90's?? Sigh. |

Thanks lindsey... I found an article that said even 2012s and 2013s were included for an axle related recall so I was worried since I haul a trailer too but reread and the axle deal is for trucks larger than mine. .

| Just the Facts:Chrysler is recalling approximately 37,000 2012-'13 Ram trucks for two different problems, the company said on Wednesday.About 30,000 2013 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickups are being recalled so that dealers can perform a software upgrade to reactivate the indicator that a turn signal is malfunctioning. In a separate action, Chrysler is recalling about 6,900 2012 Ram 4500 and 5500 pickups to fix a problem that can cause front axle damage.WASHINGTONΒ β Chrysler is recalling approximately 37,000 2012-'13 Ram trucks for two different problems, the company said on Wednesday.About 30,000 2013 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickups are being recalled worldwide so that dealers can perform a software upgrade to reactivate the indicator that a turn signal is malfunctioning. In a separate action, Chrysler is recalling about 6,900 2012 Ram 4500 and 5500 pickups to fix a problem that can cause front axle damage. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said theΒ 2013 RamΒ pickup truck recall involves vehicles equipped with optional premium taillights. The trucks were built from September 9, 2012 through March 5, 2013. The recall includes the 2013 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500."In the affected vehicles, the turn signal indicator may not flash at a double rate to give a notification to the driver of a turn signal malfunction," said NHTSA in its summary of the problem. "Without a warning that the turn signal is malfunctioning, the driver would continue to use the vehicle, unaware that other drivers on the road are not being notified that the vehicle is turning, increasing the risk of a crash."Chrysler said it is unaware of any accidents, injuries or complaints associated with the taillamp warning light recall. The problem was discovered by Chrysler engineers during routine testing, the company said.Dealers will reprogram the Central Body Controller software in the 2013 Ram. The recall is expected to begin in July. The second recall involves about 6,900 2012 Ram 4500 and 5500 heavy-duty trucks in the U.S. and Canada. Chrysler said following reports that two trucks had sustained front axle damage, Chrysler engineers launched an investigation and discovered that some trucks were subject to a condition that may cause the front prop shaft to bind or fracture, resulting in power loss.Chrysler said it is unaware of any related accidents or injuries in the Ram heavy-duty truck recall.Dealers will replace or repair the front axles. Chrysler has not specified a date for this recall. |

Glad to hear I helped a little :)
The SO said that he noticed steering issues especially when the roads got wet. For what it's worth - those problems could have been from his (cough, cough) driving abilities. LOL.
Good luck and stay safe! |

Location: Displaced Iowegian | We received a recall for this problem a couple of months ago on our 2006 (3500). We took it to the dealer and, from my understanding, when the trucks were built, there were two different manufactured parts used?.....ours had the "good" one and needed no replacement. |

| There has been a problem with Dodge 4 wheel drive trucks for more than 10 years, but they would not acknowledge it. Would do a band aid fix if you took it to the dealership, in warranty. I ordered a new 3500 4x4 in 2003 and by 2006 was having what is currently referred to as the Dodge Death shake. You can google it. At first it only did it occasionally when I went over a big dip in the highway or hit unlevel highway surface, it would shake uncontrollably in the front end until you pulled it to the side and got it to a stop. By the time I got rid of it in 2012, it was almost beyond driving over 50 mph. I had spent over $5000 with 3 different shops replacing everything possible underneath it to stabilize it and nothing worked. They thought there was a flaw in the design of the frame. It had less than 90,000 miles on it when I traded it in 10 years old. I bought a new Chevy Silverado 3500 Duramax 4x4 and now I'm enjoying my drive again. I know they cost more, but I don't have the suspension worry. |

Not every single truck that got a recall notice needed fixed, from my understanding. They recalled all of them because they didn't know which ones needed fixed.....
Shoot, for all we know, ours does not need fixed, not for the tie rod end, but either way there is something really wrong with it. Hopefully we find out tomorrow. It's a fantastic truck so hoping for the best. |
