Location: Indiana | Got a new little project yesterday! 10 year old QH mare that was supposed to be finished on barrels and poles but got blown up. So far shes done GREAT for me! I was told her biggest issue is when you run her at the first barrel she stops and rears up, haven't tried her yet on the pattern and don't plan on it for a while, but I can already tell she needs to learn to relax a little! Love her! Shes a daughter of Busy Charger and has Three Ohs on her papers...stand by for pics, i need help naming her!

Location: where ever my L/Q trl is parked | what is her name now.... I only change a name if it's something ridiculous or I have another horse already with the same name. Right now I have a Annie (gray mare) and a new one Anna, might change Anna name to Ana~ Some people change names of horses like underwear.

Location: Indiana | Also, if anyone would have any suggestions on how to approach her issue with rearing at the first barrel it would be much appreciated! All I've done so far is walk, trot, and lope her around and make her stop and flex and stand until she settles down. |

I've never really worked a blown up horse before.. But just thinking out loud.. My first thought would be to change her first barrel. After you change, work the pattern but don't. Change things up so she never knows what to expect. Ride past the barrel, take her to your rate point and rollback and head for the second barrel, do a spin on the back side of the barrel, work all lefts or all rights. If I were Clinton Anderson, I would tell you to constantly keep her feet moving any direction you can. If she's worried about where the heck you're taking her feet, she can't focus on rearing. Moving her feet will also engage the thinking side of her brain. She'll have to think about her feet instead of working the pattern. No experience with this issue, just a thought. I work a lot of babies and that's what I would do with them. Good luck on your gorgeous project! I LOVE grays! |
