| Has anyone taken the GMAT or GRE test? Did you find it to be very challenging? Is it much different than say the ACT test? I haven't had to take a standardized type test since my Junior Year of High School and I am planning on taking the GMAT later on this summer. Just wondering what everyones experiences have been with it. |

Location: Gainesville, TX | I took the general GRE and the subject specific one for Literature. Both were tough. I did well but not stellar. I did do stellar in the Writing portion though which my program considered the most. The tests are usually given via computers now. They have study aids you can get off Amazon or at Barnes & Noble. It is definitely worth your time to take a bit of a refresher. Those scores often help determine scholarship monies if you are looking at going into a graduate program, not all of your eligibility but part. |

Location: Bandera, TX | OMG! GMAT!!!! I took it in 1996 to get into business school for my MBA. It was tough - just thinking about it gives me that "blah" feeling.
I took one of those prep courses for it. Very glad I did.... |

Location: South Georgia | MUCH DIFFERENT than SAT's and ACT's! I took the ACT in high school to get into college for my undergrad and I took the GRE to get accepted into my graduate program. Start studying now. The GRE has three sections: verbal (vocabularly), math, and analytical (essay). The verbal section is very, very hard...and I am an English teacher with an English degree. I dont see how anyone without an English degree could pass that section very high. It was that hard!
I haven't taken the GMAT, so I cant help you there, but the GRE is a butt-kicker! Sign up for any and all of the practice tests and practice websites you can find. |

Like I said, I have a Bachelor's in English and I am a high school English teacher. The verbal section was the most difficult. However, I will say, that for my master's program, math score was not considered, so I pretty much skipped that section. The essays were easy for me, but I like writing. |

Location: North Central Kansas | For the GMAT it is suggested to start studying 3 months prior to taking the test. There are a bunch of study aids...books, videos, forums out there. Check with the school you are trying enter. I know for K-States MAcc program if you have at least a 3.4 accounting GPA they waive the GMAT requirement. Just a thought.

| Take the GMAT - it is a tougher exam but you will be better off for it. The GMAT is geared more toward business and at the university I am at - we recommend getting the Princeton GMAT Review for prep material. It will give you some practice exams and help you study for the test. Good luck! |

Location: Texas | I took the GRE for my doctoral program. I spent a lot of time studying the math since I am a technical writer. I did great in math and bombed the vocabulary portion. They will give you a word you've never heard of and ask you for its opposite word in a list of words you've never heard of.
My sister also took it and she studied for both, with more time on the vocabulary. Didn't help he studying it. None of the words she studied were on it.
Make sure you check what the program requires. Some require one and won't take the other.
ETA - They've also changed the GRE some since I took it about 5 years ago.
