How far will you travel back and forth for 2-3 day
(1-2 night
) shows before you get a room & stall your horse on site? How much hauling is too much when expecting your horse to make a run that same day?
I know that when I was back in HS my dad would just make the drive
(1:30 one way
) each day, but I'm not sure if that's too much stress on a horse.

I spend the night when it is more than 2 hours one way - just takes too much time and fuel. Easier to get a hotel.

Usually 2 + hours we get stalls and stay. We don't have living quarters, but we have a mattress and cupboard in the dressing compartment. It also depends on the facilities. Some are closer with nice stalling facilities and we choose to stay.

I stay if it's more than a hour always. Depends on the show but figure what it will cost for hotel and stall than figure what it will cost in fuel and see which is cheapest. If I'm going to satay I go the day before so my horse can rest. I haul 4-5 horses and I hate getting to a show and having to set up stalls for that many and then have to turn around and run.
