| A few years ago I heard he was for sale, but I was curious to know if he has produced any good stallions that are even standing to the public? I've only come across geldings and mares by him. |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | Thank you, he's been a fun ride. We bought him before we knew anything about what Burrs First Down had sired. We looked at so many different horses and he had the build my husband wanted and we lucked out on the disposition. This looks to be his final breeding season. I can honestly say, I have never seen another standing at stud, but I bet there are some out there somewhere. |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | Thank you. I don't know if Burrs First Down is breeding anymore or not. I noticed he isn't advertised as still standing in the Barrel Horse News or on VF website. We kicked around the idea of buying him, back when he was for sale, but his price was pretty crazy for such an old stallion and Danny Ray took him out of the Future Fortunes which was crazy. His % of money earners/starters was about twice what DTF's were. Too bad he didn't get the numbers of foals on the ground and the best trainers out there, I think he really would have been something. My stallion had an injury when we bought him from race training so he only competed to 5 before we had to retire him to breeding.
I talked to the people that used to stand him years ago (back when he became a million dollar sire in LA) and they said he was a very timid breeder. He needed it super quiet and no distractions to get the job done. I know my husband wouldn't put up with any "studly" behavior from our guy back when he was riding him so now I have to be the one to handle him when hand breeding. He's been an easy breeder for us, gets the job done and wants a nap lol. Maybe his sire was schooled on too much during his track days or maybe it was just him. Either way, I love the babies we are getting from our stallion, easy to train and pretty people friendly. I would love a Burrs First Down broodmare to keep with the line and breed to our future stallions. They are pretty kind hearted, at least the ones I have been around. Very much people pleasers. |
